091201- Atlanta – State senator and mayoral candidate, Kasim Reed made a noontime appearance at 10th and Piedmont Tuesday waving at cars and visiting establishments. Atlanta voters returned to the polls Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the Mayoral runoff of Atlanta city councilwoman Mary Norwood and Georgia State senator, Kasim Reed. In recent debates, Atlanta city councilwoman Mary Norwood has accused Georgia State senator, Kasim Reed, of being a political insider. Reed said Norwood, a two-term city councilwoman, constantly “got it wrong” by, for example, voting along with the rest of the council in favor of pension plan changes in 2002 and 2005. The changes now mean the city is spending more than $100 million a year on its pension plans. Reed also complained Norwood’s vote against a property tax increase last year resulted in furloughs of police officers. John Spink, jspink@ajc.com
