Before she rose to fame from her break out role in “Precious,” Gabourey Sidibe was a young unknown actress who had stars in her eyes when she met one of her big-screen idols.

That pedestal came crashing down though, when Sidibe’s idol gave her some hard cold advice about making it in the movie industry, basically telling her to quit because she didn’t have the ‘look’!

Sidebe appeared on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live a few days ago and when she hit the hot seat for host Andy Cohen’s “Plead the 5th” game, she made the startling revelation about the startling bit of advice given to her by a fellow actress she looked up to.

When Cohen asked Gabby, “What celebrity were you most disappointed by when you first met them?” she replied:

It’s not in a mean way because I know she meant well… I met Joan Cusack, who’s my favorite favorite and she… I love her… And it was before I became…whatever.

It was at some industry party and she says ‘are you an actress’ and I said “yeah.” and she says ‘oh honey you should really quit the business. It’s so image conscious.’

And I think she really, really meant it in a good way. Like she really, really did!

So no shade to her But I was like ‘oh I love you. Please don’t tell me to quit my job!” (laughs)

How dreadful! 😯

Cusack issued the “advice” well before Sidibe hit it big with “Precious,” but it’s still baffles me how a veteran actress would have the audacity to advise an unconventional young actresses to flat out QUIT the industry?!

And Joan Cusack may be funny as hell but she’s never been considered a “hottie”…

At least Sidibe didn’t let that toxic piece of advice get her down! She went on to star in “Precious” and is currently one of the stars of Showtime’s “The Big C”.
