Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Jill Scott was honored during ESSENCE’s 6th Annual Black Women in Music Event, presented by Lincoln Motor Company a few days ago.
The event is held each year during Grammy’s week in L.A. and this year, celebrity attendees and consumers flocked to Avalon Hollywood.
Attendees included Ciara, Jordin Sparks, Zendaya, Chante Moore, Candice Patton, Elise Neal, Tasha Smith, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai, Tamera Mowry-Housley and more.
Guests were treated to a journey through four decades of music with performances by Chaka Khan, MC Lyte, Brandy and Lianne La Havas.

Rapper Rick Ross shared a tender moment with BMI VP Catherine Brewton during a recent Grammy week event.
In honor of music’s biggest weekend, Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) held it’s annual pre-Grammy ‘How I Wrote That Song’ panel discussion event in West Hollywood (February 7, 2015).
The list of illustrious panelists included GRAMMY-nominated hip-hop magnate Rick Ross, GRAMMY-nominated scribe Ester Dean, GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter & producer David Hodges, multiplatinum, GRAMMY-nominated producer Mannie Fresh and country music’s number-one-hit wordsmith Natalie Hemby.
Moderated by BMI Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton, panelists shared their secrets to success in the process of writing, producing and performing hit songs. Each panelist also revealed the personal stories behind their greatest and most memorable hits.

This year it’s all about Kanye West, who revisited one of his most infamous stunts during Sunday night’s Grammy awards, as he unexpectedly took to the Staples Center stage during Beck’s album of the year award acceptance speech.
The win was the unquestionably the shock of the evening, as Beck’s “Morning Phase” album beat out both Sam Smith, and Beyoncé for the coveted award!
Beck seemed as surprised as the rest of the audience when he won the award and appeared to be looking around for help. That’s when Yeezy seized the moment, jumping up on stage as if he was about to take the mic… (again)

Instead, West flaked out and quickly returned to his seat, but not before getting a few laughs from friends nearby (Beyoncé, Jay-Z, wife Kim Kardashian & John Legend).
But wait… West wasn’t joking at all. In fact, after the show he clarified his actions by ranting that Beyoncé should have won for her self-titled album and that ‘out of respect’ Beck should have given her the Grammy!

‘Straight Outta Compton’ is directed by F. Gary Gray and stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.
Synopsis:
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
After taking a week off for the Super Bowl, The Real Housewives of Atlanta returned with the 13th episode of it’s 7th season last night (February 8, 2015).
