Comedian/Syndicated talk show host Rickey Smiley showed his true colors this morning on the social networking site Twitter. I had no idea what was going on til loyal reader Gwendella hit me up on email:
Re: Rickey Smiley
This fool is losing his mind. ?He cursed that girl out cause she asked him ‘really?’ after he cursed someone else out. He’s loyal to Steve something serious. You know Mary was everywhere this morning.
So I head over to check out Rickey’s page… and he’s trying to explain himself. Talbmout how Christians aren’t exempt from cursing yada… yada.. yada…
But when I saw what Rickey posted that actually started all the backlash I couldn’t believe my eyes…
Really Rickey?!? What are you? 12 years old?
To be fair… I have no idea what Rickey was responding to, since the person changed their name (or deleted their account) right after his response. But does it really matter? Rickey already showed his “A”zz? online for the world to see! No turning back now…
Now he’s feeling the backlash. Several disgusted fans and followers have called Rickey “bi-polar” but instead of just apologizing and moving on, he’s justifying his actions:
And while ‘yes’ public figures are still human, when does common sense come into play?
Mr. Smiley has always professed to be a “Christian,” and while no one is perfect, how can you justify acting a fool for the masses? Yeah… Christians get angry too, but there is a time and a place for everything and all this drama before lunch on a public social networking site just ain’t it…
I guess Rickey… I guess.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…. Twitter is about to be the death of quite a few careers! When will they learn?
Question: Do you feel it’s appropriate for “celebs” and ‘public figures” to act a fool online? Are they “only human” as Ricky suggests or should they take into account their younger fans/followers?
