Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmunds and Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid were the guests of honor last night as YouTube Music celebrated the 30 year legacy of LaFace Records last night (January 15, 2020).
It was a magical evening in Atlanta as all of the LEADERS and LEGENDS that have made the city into a musical powerhouse all converged for a black tie gala, which took place at the Atlanta History Center.
The event was held to reflect on the city’s longstanding contributions to popular music, largely established by the night’s guests of honor. The evening was introduced by Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube, and Tuma Basa, Director of Urban Music at YouTube who further reiterated the significance of Atlanta as not only a vehicle for popular music, but also a global purveyor of culture.
Joining them onstage for special presentations were comedian Lil Duval, recording artist Monica, and music video director Bryan Barber. The evening was capped off by special award presentations made to Edmonds and Reid for the storied careers and performances by Atlanta’s legendary acts including Big Boi, Pastor Troy, KP the Great, Goodie Mob, CeeLo, Killer Mike and TI.
Other notable attendees and guest appearances included Ludacris, 2Chainz, Jermaine Dupri, Future, Rick Ross, Da Brat, YoungBloodZ, Sleepy Brown, Rico Wade, Dallas Austin, and more.

The UNCF’s Mayor’s Masked Ball, which is the city’s premier fundraising gala and major social event focusing on raising awareness of the need and benefits of a college education, the students UNCF serves and the contributions of historically black colleges and universities was held at Atlanta’s Marriott Marquee Hotel on December 21, 2019
Hosted by a diverse group of corporate sponsors, local businesses and professional organizations the Mayor’s Masked Ball Atlanta was an evening full of celebration attended by national celebrities, civic leaders, alumni, dignitaries, volunteers and friends of UNCF.

Pastor Jamal Bryant and Kanye West strike a post at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church this past Sunday.
Bryant reportedly received a phone call from West’s camp only 36 hours before the service indicating that the popular entertainer wanted to come worship and of course he jumped at the opportunity to host.
“We started doing somersaults and jumping jacks just at the opportunity… because we knew what this would mean for a community that we have desperately been trying to reach.”
West claims that he chose the church because God led him to Atlanta, “to the home where I was born, where my mother met my daddy”.
In addition to the music, attendees of New Birth were treated to a 10-minute sermon by the hip-hop artist. Among the hundreds of worshippers were Chris Tucker, Jermaine Dupri, Fonzworth Bently, T.I. and Tiny, 2 Chainz and more.

Jermaine Dupri is clearing the air about recent reports that Jay-Z discouraged him from signing a similar deal with the NFL.
Just few days ago, commentary from Bryan Michael-Cox went viral after he stated during his podcast that his good friend, Jermaine Dupri had received a phone call from Jay-Z advising him not to go into business with the NFL (click HERE if you missed that).
