Kandi Burruss of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is spoke on a female empowerment panel discussion during the 2017 Essence Festival yesterday (July 1, 2017).
The popular entrepreneur shared her thoughts on branding, stating:
DO NOT promote any name that you like unless you have trademarked it first. Do not hashtag it, do not say nothing about it… unless you have got all the social media accounts for that name and go through the process of trying to trademark it.
She also provided a bit of insight about the Jermaine Dupri’s unauthorized Xscape movie (click HERE if you missed that) and how the group actually reunited because of it!

I’m not a big basketball fan but I always support the hometeam and speaking of which, the Atlanta Hawks recently released a promotional video featuring several of your favorite A-Town celebs.
Janelle Monae, Kandi Burruss, Ludacris, Big Boi, Jermaine Dupri, T.I. and Young Jeezy are just a few of the familiar faces you’ll see, as they salute the b-ball team from the city that has been appropriately dubbed ‘Black Hollywood’…
On this team… everyone matters. And on this night… no one’s on the bench.

Jermaine recently sat down with Big Tigger of Atlanta’s V-103 radio station to address the issue, stating:
I wasn’t trying to attack Ciara or anything like that. It ain’t like that… what I was trying to do is make sure the guy who was doing the interview understands how frequently this happens in the music business.
This happens probably EVERYDAY… that somebody’s record sounds like somebody else’s record.
It’s very easy for people to be influenced by music. If you listen to records a lot if you listen to artists a lot… it just happens very frequently.
I didn’t know me saying that was going to turn into this…
Dupri still manages to prove his point when he and Big Tigger compare the two songs back to back.
You may have heard by now that the courts awarded over $7.4 million to Marvin Gaye?s family for their claims Pharell and Robin Thicke stole ?Blurred Lines? from Marvin?s hit ?Got To Give It Up,? and their win is prompting other producers to speak up about their stolen works.
There’s no question that music from the past ‘inspires’ other songs, and Jermaine Dupri should know… being that the 42-year-old has co-written and/or co-produced No. 1 hits such as Carey’s “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby,” Usher‘s “Burn” and Monica’s “The First Night.”
That being said, the legendary producer recently shared his take on the ‘Blurred Lines’ lawsuit and in doing so… managed to blast Ciara‘s ‘I Bet’ as a rip off of a song he co produced, Usher’s ‘You got it Bad’ !
