You may think you know your Atlanta history but you have no idea!
The City of Atlanta, once predominantly black and recognized as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement, has become more affluent and less Black over the last decade, resulting last November in the closest mayoral race between a black and a white candidate since the 1970s.
VIDEO: The Atlanta Way Documentary ~ (Official Trailer)
Other cities think of us as “Blacklanta” or “Black” Hollywood, but that’s not really an accurate depiction of our inner city…. not anymore.? In all actuality it’s not a Black/White thing… it’s a status thing.? And it’s all due to “Gentrification”.
Gentrification and urban gentrification are terms referring to the socio-cultural displacement that results when wealthier people acquire property in low income and working class communities.
Atlanta was the first major city to have public housing projects and in contrast, as of 2009 it earned the title of becoming the first major city to eliminate ALL of it’s public housing projects.
I was privy to seeing it first hand during my days at The City of Atlanta’s Development Authority and actually bought into it when I exchanged my South Atlanta diggs for a downtown location.
A new documentary, entitled The Atlanta Way covers Atlanta’s gentrification process from many differing perspectives? within the city.? There are claims that Atlanta is no longer the “Black Mecca” while others say it will always be ?even with the white influx? but truth be told, the City itself is just no longer affordable to poor and working-class African Americans.
It’s a very enlightening documentary!

I stopped blogging about VH1’S Basketball Wives a while ago because honestly…. they all bore me.
People ask me about this new season all the time and I coudn’t tell you what’s been going on if you paid me!
That being said… Evelyn Lozada has apparently given VH1 and ultimatum — as if she makes the show more interesting.? Lozada is asking the network to either give her a raise of over $12,000 an episode or she’s walking out the door.
According to TMZ, Lozada and the other “wives” currently pull in around $7,500 an episode, but Lozada feels she deserves $20,000 for her appearance each show.
No word yet on the show’s next move.
Question to those of you who watch “Basketball Wives”… is Evelyn really that crucial to the show?
Child star Gary Coleman passed away May 28, 2010 and while it’s been almost a year, his controversial ex, Shannon Price, is still battling over control of Coleman’s estate — and his remains.
As I was perusing Starcasm this weekend, I found out that while Coleman’s spirit may be in a better place but his remains are still sitting in an office… and his crazy ex is still sitting in court (or at least she will be again next month).
Coleman’s former business manager and girlfriend Anna Gray, is the sole benefactor of the former child star’s 2005 will., but Price is still pursuing her ongoing legal fight to secure her claim on Coleman’s remaining assets.
While the bitter feud over Coleman’s estate continues, sadly his ashes still remain under lock & key in an attorney’s office.
It is Shannon’s hope that a judge will rule in her favor so that she can secure his remains.? She wants to keep him very close to her heart… literally!
So in essence, the same chick who sold Coleman’s deathbed photos for $10,000 — the same chick who said she only pulled the plug because he would have died anyway — wants to wear his remains around her neck?!?!? GTFOH!!!

I mean seriously… y’all aren’t all online ALL the time are you? [insert side-eye]
Well according to a study by Men’s Health, if you’re in the “A” you’re probably tweeting or facebooking right now – just like my friend @UbringMeJoi in the photo above!
Atlanta ranks as the second most socially networked city in the United States and falls right in behind Washington, D.C., while Denver, Minneapolis and Seattle round out the top five.
The number of people Facebook and LinkedIn users per capita, followed by Twitter users. Online traffic generated from sites such as Myspace, Friendster, Reddit, Digg and chat rooms also were included in the research.
According to the AJC, the study doesn’t identify specific reasons we’re more wired than others. But our number could be larger due to our ever-grinding hip-hop community and the amount of colleges and universities in the area.
It also doesn’t hurt that Atlanta is considered a recent “it” city status among filmmakers.
Life imitated art recently after your favorite lezzzbun drug dealer Felicia “Snoop” Pearson was arrested in a major drug bust.
Pearson, 30, best known for her role on the HBO series “The Wire” (a dramatic series about the drug game in Baltimore) has been charged with conspiring to sell heroin and was one of dozens arrested in early morning raids across Baltimore.?
Snoop is among 64 people charged in a joint state-federal prosecution of a large east Baltimore drug gang and has been charged in state court with conspiring with two men to distribute heroin and aiding and abetting.
Local television cameras captured raw footage of federal agents leading Pearson from an apartment building downtown to a waiting police van. She was one of 37 people arrested by about 450 federal, state and local officers early yesterday morning.
This is not the first time Pearson has been in trouble with the law.? In fact, in a weird twist, it was a young life of crime that brought her to TV in the first place.
Check out the raw video footage of Pearson’s arrest + details about Person’s drug ridden past below: Continue Reading…
