And the winner is…. Ellen Degeneres!

Degeneres’ award winning Selfie has officially set an all-time social networking record!

The photo, a mega-selfie which featured, Degeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, and Bradley Cooper, who snapped the shot, shut down twitter and set a record as ‘the most retweeted tweet of all-time.’

Degeneres is also the first user to top 1 million retweets for a single Twitter post.

Ellen’s award winning Oscar selfie surpassed 1,300,000 retweets in less than an hour!

It only took about 34 minutes to break the record.

Degeneres’ tweet snatched the top spot from President Obama, whose victory photo from the night of his re-election, tweeted Nov. 6, 2012 has over 780,000 retweets.

Laura Olin, who was part of the Obama social media team that sent the tweet, posted “We had a good run, little tweet. We had a good run.” after setting the historical social media record.

Twitter temporarily shut down after Ellen DeGeneres posted the all-star selfie.

DeGeneres’ tweet was so popular it “broke” Twitter for some users and shortly after 11pm EST, Degeneres stated:

We crashed and broke Twitter. We have made history. See, Meryl [Streep], what we did, you and I?

It’s back up again so it has the most retweets ever and we are all winners tonight. That’s what it means.
