Kandi Burruss of The Real Housewives of Atlanta has released the artwork that will accompany her new gospel single “Stay Prayed Up.”
The song has both the gospel and secular music industry buzzing and the song, which features the vocals of Pastor Marvin Sapp, has actually surprised those who have heard the final product.

Burruss, who also plays host to “Kandi Koated Nights,” a popular late night web series covering all things sex, and creator of “Bedroom Kandi,” (her line of pleasure products and sex toys), shocked the public with news she teamed up with Sapp for the release of the gospel single.
While she’s fully aware of the controversial nature of it all, Kandi shared a few of the lyricis as well as her thoughts about the criticism she’s received about her choice to venture into ‘church music’.

Burruss shared the following via her personal Instagram page, stating:
“I knew when I decided to do it that I would be criticized. That’s to be expected.”
The single mom, who is engaged to her live-in fiancé, Todd Tucker, is moving forward with plans to unveil her newest musical venture and from what I’ve heard… “Stay Prayed Up” will surprise many a “Christian” music connoisseur.
“I am honest about who I am,” Kandi continued, before revealing her Christian background and lineage.
“My great grand father & my grandfather were Bishops in The Church of God Holiness. I believe in God but I have always struggled with the rules of the church, just like a lot of people.”
Though she admittedly leads a contrary life in terms of the principles outlined in the word of God for sexual purity and holiness, Burruss is using her new gospel song as “a testimony for me. Hopefully people with a similar struggle can relate.”

They convinced themselves that if they only let their children watch certain channels, etc. that they would somehow avoid the pitfalls of life. Long story short, they were wrong. I have been more surprised at people’s reactions to the song more than I was surprised at her recording the song. Kandi is pretty transparent, and she seems to catch a lot of flack for it.
I like Marvin Sapp, but I believe that if Kandi wasn’t in a relationship he would have probably tried hard to holler at her. People think these gospel singers are next to saints, but they have just as many things in their past (and sometimes their present) as everyone else.

She’s recording something clean and positive that her daughter can be proud of, and people are attacking her. I can’t name many people in the church who can actually attack her on this without themselves being hypocritical.

The bible also says let your yeah be your yeah and you nay be your nay. If you gonna yeah for Christ, then that you do. You cannot serve two masters as the good book tells us "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.". She has a choice to make. Maintain her saltiness in Christ or loose the flavor and only time will tell if she is serious about walking in her inheritance. Just because you "stay prayed up" doesn’t mean you are saved! You can pray day and night to God, but if you are not living your life according to what the scriptures say… it’s useless! How do you put out a Gospel record, and then go home and shack up with your Boyfriend?! A LOT OF PEOPLE MIGHT GET MAD AT THIS NEXT STATEMENT… but fornication is often looked over in Black Churches! As long as you are paying due’s and putting money in the collection plate, nobody really says anything to you! Actually fornication is not overlooked in the church. It is just not taught like the other topics, its mentioned quickly. Why because you would get rid of alot of people? I have not a problem in the word with Kandi making this song-I stay prayed up myself because of my slick commentary on this blog….but I do have to agree, this seems like a money venture. She did the r&b thing, tried the country thing, and now gospel. I’m so tired of singers turning to gospel as a means to make money when the secular world doesn’t accept them. With that being said, she can sing what she wants when she wants with who she wants, but I know I personally won’t be buying it. Examples…… Woman caught in the ACT of adultery Also the Woman at the well……. Never exposed them publicly, dealt with them privately. We as believer major in minors…… So caught up in the messenger that we are missing the message "Staying Prayed UP".
Now I close with this…Everyone that God used in scripture was flawed and or had struggles…. Let me call the roll….. The only perfect person to walk this earth is Jesus and even he didn’t act like he was better than anyone else. Some of you holier than thou people need to get your judgemental life. The song even says "I’M A SINNER THAT’S NO LIE" KANDI DIDN’T MISLEAD ANYONE. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
