The family’s home had been foreclosed on by the bank, so on October 23, 2012, they decided to place a classified ad on Craigslist listing a few free items to give away.
Hours after the posting, the family, who had already lost their home to the bank… watched as huge crowds of people took practically EVERYTHING from inside their house!
Details + video below…
The family had apparently placed two ads on craigslist.
The first ad (posted above) simply stated there were free items and told people to “come by anytime today”, while a 2nd ad was placed stating there would be a giveaway at a specified time.
The family hit up Atlanta’s 11Alive news to get a bit of sympathy recently, stating the online post was intended for only a few items they were planning to get rid of.
In the driveway outside of the small house, the homeowners scheduled a giveaway to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
People responding to the family’s craigslist ads appeared at the home. Many came earlier than 10 a.m., before Michael Vercher (homeowner) arrived from work to supervise the giveaway.
When he drove up to the house, several thirsty craigslisters had already broken into it, helping themselves to almost everything inside!
11Alive’s Jon Shirek was escorted through the ransacked home Wednesday night by foreclosed homeowner Michael Vercher.
“Well, when we got to the house, I mean, pretty much — this,” he said as he stepped from the foyer into the living room.
Their home — ransacked, ravaged, raked over.
Almost everything inside — gone.
Ok… let’s back up for a second.
This genius of a gentleman posted his address ONLINE and advertised that EVERYTHING was “free”.
Even if he failed to delete the first advertisement posted where there was NO specified time listed… the fact remains that he POSTED HIS ADDRESS online telling people to come and get free stuff.
Craigslist Fail or User Error? Who’s really to blame for this man’s blatant stupidity?
