Movie mogul Tyler Perry is something like a hero round these parts. In fact, if he could fly he’d be a real life superman!
The generous producer not only rescues cub scouts, but he recently lent a helping hand to a family that lost it all in a fire and totally saved Christmas for an elderly grandmother and her kids!
Just days before Christmas, 88-year-old Rosa Lee Ransby and her 4-year-old great-granddaughter barely escaped a fire that destroyed her home of 40 years and everything in it.
“We were asleep and woke up and the house was on fire,” Ransby told Channel 2’s Richard Elliot.
“I saw smoke, and I went into the bedroom, saw the fire coming up and the smoke coming out. So I said come on, the house is on fire.”
Coweta County firefighters began soliciting for donations from anyone they could find, and dozens of calls came in.
After Channel 2 Action News? coverage of the fire aired, movie mogul Tyler Perry visited Ransby?s neighborhood Thursday afternoon and pledged to rent her a house for a year including the utilities and new furniture.
But wait… that’s not all!? Perry also plans to build Ransby a brand new home on her old property!
Perry’s generosity has left the family and firefighters stunned.
?It?s made my Christmas. I?ve been doing this a long time, seen a lot of bad things come and go but this is special,? Coweta Fire Chief Todd Moore said.
The house Perry is renting for Ransby will be just a few doors down from her old home that burned down.
They hope to break ground on the new house in January.
Donations for Ransby and her family are being accepted in a fund available at any metro Atlanta United Bank.
?It?s just good, you know. I didn?t think I had no friends, but I found out I got some,? Ransby said.
