Rapper Lil Wayne reported to a New York City courthouse today (March 8th) to begin his one year jail sentence. As previously posted, Wayne’s sentencing was postponed three times; Once to obtain dental surgery [READ: Lil Wayne Displays New Grill], again on March 2nd when there was an unexplained fire in the basement of the NY courthouse where he was to be sentenced, and then a final time March 3rd when the judge felt more time was needed to repair the courthouse after the fire.
Wayne reported to court today around 2 p.m. to hear his sentencing. There was a crowd of onlookers and paparazzi outside who were in a frenzy when Weezy made his appearance.

Following his sentencing, Wayne was escorted away to begin his one year behind bars at New York’s notorious Riker’s Island. If Lil Wayne maintains good behavior he could be out of the facility in as little as eight months.
According to several sources, Wayne will NOT be in the ?general population? at Riker’s but will serve his time in protected custody.
