The incident reportedly occurred September 18, 2012 and Artis Hughes, 59, was driver of the bus who delivered that fierce uppercut to a 25 year old unruly female passenger by the name of Shi’dea Lane.

Shi’dea has become somewhat of an internet celebrity after taking the punch like a champ and she recently revealed she’s still feeling it weeks later…
Hughes, a 22 year veteran of the bus line, claims he only struck the woman after she grabbed his throat and spit in his face and while that’s between him and his God, the incident is forever caught on tape…
VIDEO: Bus Driver Uppercuts and Punches Woman & Throws Her Off Bus
Shi’dea Lane, 25, says that bus driver, Artis Hughes, 59, instigated the incident that led to the uppercut watched around the world and she still can’t believe that he hit her.
Lane says that when she got off work on September 18, she boarded a Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus being driven by Hughes. He allegedly thought she didn’t have the bus fare, while she claims that she just needed to find it. From there, words were exchanged and by all appearances, Lane struck Hughes while he was driving the bus.
This led the older man to stop the bus, tell the belligerent passenger, “You’re going to jail now,” before delivering the vicious blow to Lane’s face, knocking her to the ground. She stood to fight and Hughes grabbed her neck before they were separated by passengers. They exclaimed, “She’s a female!” To which Hughes responded, “I don’t care; she want to be a man, I’m gone treat you like a man!”
Shi’dea Lane was recently interview by Fox news and referred to the hit as feeling like something out of Mortal Kombat:

Bus driver Artis Hughes, 59, was also interviewed by officers shortly after the incident and he states that Lane was the aggressor.
Hughes, a 22-year veteran of the bus line, was suspended from his job after the incident. His employer characterized his behavior as “absolutely unacceptable” but three passengers also described Lane as the incident’s aggressor.
Hughes told cops that Lane initially boarded the bus without paying, claiming, “I left my bookbag.”
Hughes said that after Lane, a restaurant employee, eventually paid her fare, she told him, “You a Bitch and Your Momma’s a Bitch Too!”
She also reportedly stated, “Keep talking about me and I will spit on you!”
According to the smoking gun:
In a written statement, Hughes recalled that Lane “grabbed me in the throat and spit on me in the face.” In response, the driver said he stopped the bus, “and I protected myself.” The Hughes statement does not reveal that he hit Lane squarely in the jaw with a bolo punch that knocked her to the ground.
One witness told cops that a “drunk” Lane “got on the bus fliping out” and “started talking crazy” to Hughes. After spitting on Hughes, the witness wrote in a statement, the driver “did what he had to do.”
A second witness wrote that Lane was “loud and obnoxious” from the start, and spit on Hughes and “started hitting him.” The witness added, “That’s when he hit her back.” A third witness described Lane as “drunk” and reported that “she hit him and he jumped out of his seat and started fighting her.”
Hughes originally wanted to prosecute Lane but a week after the incident, he called a police detective to report that he “did not wish to pursue prosecution of the female suspect.” He subsequently signed a “Refuse to Prosecute Form.”
Lane was not arrested at the scene. In fact, following the confrontation, she was transported to the restaurant where she works by police officers.
Looks like neither of them will be facing charges in this situation.

Both scriptures meaning: whatever you practice in small portions, you will practice it in large portions, and whatever you teach your child when they are small, they will do it when they are older. My cousin’s nephew pushed her up against a wall one day when he decided to get loud with her and tried to push and lock her in a room and laugh in her face. She had his behind thrown in jail. He cried like a baby when the police showed up and called his trifflin mother to rescue him. His trifflin mother had to come from the hair shop and get her loser son out of trouble cause she was the very one to perpetuated that behavior in the first place. You don’t want to be the mother everyone calls "trifflin" for raising a weak son who has to fight with his hands instead of his mind. And you also don’t want to get the call in the middle of your workday telling you your son is behind bars and it’s $10k to get his behind out.

The only way she would win is if the City of Cleveland didn’t have a safety code requiring all passengers to abide by and respect the drivers ‘personal driving space’ zone (just about every city bus organization has them). The young lady was wrong to provoke him, spit in his face, loud talk him, bad mouth him, and ESPECIALLY while he was driving the bus, a bus she happened to be riding might I add. Anything could have happ when she was tugging and spitting on him, he could have been in an accident that took ALL their lives! But no, she wanted to be a loud mouth rude and dirty HEFFA!!! There are wrong on both side of this incident. I’m pretty sure there were protocol in place that the driver knew about on how to handle the situation when somebody get on the bus without the transit fare. She was wrong for going off on the man like she did, but he was wrong also for entertaining it and lashing back, he should had kept his mouth shut,(he was on the job), and I know she may or may not had hit him or spit on him,but he is a man, more powerful than a woman and he used all his strength fo hit that young lady. LJS~yes, as retired driver from a totally different system there is a system in place: however,to utilize that system, you have to shut down your bus (which he had to do anyway)and wait for ever for law enforcement and a supervisor to show up. All jokes aside, and I know he was probably tired of foolishness which we all feel from time to time on all of our jobs, he was suppose to just ask her once for her money, if she refused, pull over, call backup, and delay everyone on the bus while waiting for backup! That is the part most drivers try to avoid..delaying law abiding passengers trying to get to their destinations but can’t, because a mess, such as her makes the trip difficult.He was not suppose to argue with her at all;however,she stood here bellowing filth in his space, face and ears…ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH!His coworkers should rally around in the drivers code just like the police departments do all over the USA! Those policy was put into place for a reason and must be follow and adhere to. The driver should had follow procedure. Iknow its hard sometimes, believe me,I’ve been there. But to stop confusion, problems and trouble procedures should had been follow. If I was a passenger on that bus, I would rather had been delayed than to have been a witness to such an act of violence.

That lion jumped on top of the rocks surrounding the den, jumped over the fence, ran directly to the guy who was taunting it and ate his ass up on Christmas day. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Meanwhile, people were running, screaming, grabbing their children, but the lion had no desire for the other people. It only ran to the one who messed with it. The zoo keepers had to shoot and kill it dead in order to stop it. Point of the story: The lion knew it’s job was to just sit in the den and let little kids point and stare at it. It was fine with that. It was able to jump out the den the whole time, it just never felt the need to until it was provoked beyond it’s usual atmosphere. The guy died and everyone was like, "That’s what he gets for taunting a lion". The same thing with this bus driver. A drunk girl taunted him beyond what would normally happen on a public bus and he ate her ass alive. It’s all animal instinct, not procedure. Procedures flew out the door when the animal put HER HANDS on him.
I have been in a situation where the driver followed procedures in NYC. Folks did not want to wait 20-25 minutes because a young teenage boy did not have his fare. Basically the only alternative was to pay his fare for him. So folks brought out pocket changed until it added up to $2.25. The bus kept rolling and he was sitting there looking pitifull and getting dirty looks from everyone.

i am a bus driver as well, HE WAS DEAD WRONG!!!that is why he is not pressing charges. he has 22 yrs invested in this job and was trained in how to better handle this situation, he did nothing right, trust me there were so many other ways he could’ve handled this b4 it escalated to this level, he could have let her ride for free just this once, just so he could keep it moving. i saw the whole video, he also said some nasty things to her, that was his bus and his fault, it doesnt seem that way to non bus drivers but it is.
