Blige participated in Burger King’s celebrity campaign and her ad spot appeared online alongside David Beckham, Selma Hayek and Jay Leno. MJB’s video suddenly disappeared from the net after it received a ton of backlash, yet Beckham, Leno and Hayek’s commercials all still remain online.
I’ve posted the video below for those of you who can’t figure out what all the controversy is about. It’s just chicken… right?

Ok… did you guys see anything out of the ordinary? (well.. besides that whole stereotype of black women and fried chicken).
Mary J. poppin up on that table after those Caucasian men asked “What’s in the Chicken Wrap?” was a classic moment that will forever go down in history. 
I could NOT STOP LAUGHING when I first saw the commercial and I swear I thought it was spoof… a Saturday Night Live skit… a prank… ANYTHING but “real life!”
Clearly the joke was on us… and Mary…. *sigh*
Mary J. Blige is an musical icon and I don’t know WHO authorized this buffoonery but clearly someone in her camp needs to get the boot! You cannot lead me to believe that Mary thought that commercial was a good idea.
Did anyone even preview that commercial before it was hilariously released to the masses??
After Mary’s commercial mysteriously disappeared from just about everywhere online, GAWKER contacted Burger King to find out why it was pulled and they responded with the following:
The Mary J. Blige advertisement has been pulled due to a licensing issue. BURGER KING® expects to have the Blige ads back on air soon.
I honestly don’t think the video will ever be played in the mainstream, but it did garner BK quite a bit of press. Maybe their next press release will say simply “April Fools!”

I cant believe people are mad at Mary J. Blige for this commerical becasue of coonery?!! Now I can see them saying it was wack, but to say she sold out for doing this is stupid, what Mary did was called branding. If Brittany Spears or Christina song this, this wouldn’t be an issue, but because she’s black it is, come on now its not like she was holding a piece of watermelon in her hand. Its not like it was a CHURCH’S chicken commercial she’s singing about a snack wrap. An easy 2million check cashed for 60 seconds, gone head Mary, with your pickles onions, fresh lettuce, 2 cheeses, french dressing its catchy and she used the beat to her song Don’t Mindon her new album so I support it! I think Mary and BK did their job, making some memorable you won’t forget tell me this hook ain’t in your head.

I don’t acknowledge such stereotypes, everybody loves chicken. Mz. Mary….She got some bad advice, she is too far in her career for this kind of mess…I’ll just say this file this next to MC Hammer’s commercial for chicken bites. At least Kirk Franklin & fam tap danced for whole pieces of chicken.
Mary could not have seen anything wrong with that comercial because she partook in it.

I laughed the first time I watched it! So, I watched it again, LOL! I didn’t notice any stereotypes. I agree with Deunya. At this point in her career why do it? Anybody could have done THAT commercial.

I don’t get it. What’s the big deal. She’s not wearing a scarf on her head and an apron carrying a broom singing an old negro spiritual about chicken. It’s just a silly commercial. Her "singing" is the bad part! Someone please hit the autotune button!
I don’t get what the big deal is? The guy asks what’s in the wrap, the manager gets ready to tell him, then Mary interrupts. Like she’s been standing there singing the menu all day and interrupting the manager all day long. It’s not a bad commerical, just could have been shot differently so that more people would get it.

I just think it was poor judgement in her PR with allow her to sing about chicken. She is above singing about chicken. Why not sing a song about Carol’s Daughter products????!!! The commercial is corny and in poor taste, no racial undertones.

I think this commercial was unnecessary. Mary has built a successful career and reputation. She has transformed into a woman of sophistication. For me, this was a step backwards. She doesn’t need to sing jingles for money. Let alone, chicken jingles… Just wrong…
The problem is we (black people) have the crab in a barrel syndrome. If they had gotten Taylor Swift, Christina or Brittney to do it we would be asking "why didn’t they include a black celebrity in their marketing". BK went out and got one of the most sucessful R&B artist ever to do a commercial and we have a problem with it?

I didnt see anything wrong with her doing the commercial. She is showcasing her talent of singing while marketing the brand. That is no different of Leno showcasing of talent of telling jokes in his commercial. You can never please everyone, so make your money Mary.

Did I miss something? Where was the racial overtone? Aren’t there other artists/actors doing commercials about the same chicken wrap? I’m black and I don’t see what the problem is. WE need to stop trying to pull the race card on EVERYTHING.
The Beckham commercial doesn’t have him kicking stuff all over the restaurant… The Leno commercial doesn’t have him cracking jokes on the staff and patrons- BOTH are just ordering food. Why couldn’t Mry just be in line ordering food too?
