Black men matter. Period. That is the message that Oprah Winfrey conveyed yesterday when she surprised Morehouse College with another huge donation.
Winfrey donated $13 million to the historically black all-male college on Monday (October 8) further contributing to her scholarship program at the institution that was founded more than 150 years ago to educate African American men.

The 2019 graduating class of Morehouse College received a huge surprise yesterday morning.
Graduation keynote speaker Robert F. Smith, philanthropist and investor, shared an inspirational message to the Morehouse men of 2019, as he proudly announced that he and his family were going to eliminate all of their student loan debt.
“My family is going to create a grant to eliminate your student loans,” Smith said to the graduating seniors.
“You great Morehouse men are bound only by the limits of your own conviction and creativity.”

The hashtag #RapedByMorehouse and #RapedAtSpelman began trending yesterday on social media after several students from Spelman College banded together to launch a silent protest on campus.
After a self-identified Spelman student anonymously took to Twitter with a detailed account of her encounter with a Morehouse student, several of her fellow students donned caution tape on their mouths to symbolize how rape victims at the college are often silenced.
They also carried signs bearing the words from her tweets in an effort to force Morehouse to acknowledge the alleged rape culture and make changes.
Many Morehouse men found the hashtag extremely disrespectful to the college as a whole and are calling for social media users to name the people accountable instead of the college as a whole.

NEWSFLASH! ‘Morehouse Man,’ a video spoof of Jidenna’s ‘Classic Man’ went viral last night on twitter.
The video pays homage to Atlanta’s Morehouse College with a few well-dressed students dancing and singing about being a ‘Morehouse Man,’ a phrase that generally describes a graduate of the esteemed historically Black college.
