Morehouse college has revealed a new policy on campus which they say is designed to uphold “the image of a strong black man.”? The new policy is creating a bit of backlash because people are saying that it is alienating gay students at the all-male historically Black college. The new policy details 11 expectations of students, including:
* no caps, do-rags and/or hoods in classrooms, the cafeteria, or other indoor venues
* no sun glasses worn in class or at formal programs
* no jeans at major programs, as well as no sagging pants on campus
* no clothing with derogatory or lewd messages either in words or pictures
* no wearing of clothing usually worn by women (dresses, tops, tunics, purses, pumps, etc.) on the Morehouse campus or at college-sponsored events.
It’s the restriction on women’s clothing that causing an uproar at the school. In a city where men in pumps carrying purses is somewhat commonplace and revered on “reality” television, Morehouse is taking a stand and seems to be attempting to give our historic city some dignity.
