The 1st annual T.H.U.G. awards?was held last night in Atlanta and the “A” was in the house!? Damon Williams (from BET’s comic view) and Griffy2k (Hot107.9) co-hosted the event and there were performances by Gorilla Zoe, Gucci Mane, DJ Unk and Block Entertainment’s newest artist (whose name I can’t recall but he was a real cutie 🙂 ).?? Also spotted were Young Buck, Lil Troy, Yung Joc, Shawty Lo, and a gazillion other people I can’t name.? I got exclusive access to them all and?of course a few photos?from the event.

T.H.U.G.s Honored in Atlanta Tonight

Atlanta will be hosting the first ever T.H.U.G. Awards tonight at the Rialto Center of the Arts.? In case you were wondering T.H.U.G. stands for “Tru to His/Her Urban Genius”.? The event, sponsored by The Source Magazine,?will be hosted by Comedian Damon Williams and filming begans at 7:30.?

Paying tribute to artists, record label executives and industry playmakers with a comedic celebrity roast, T.H.U.G Awards highlights the achievements of those who rose above their impoverished surroundings to impact the world of music and entertainment. Among honorees for the star-studded event are Grand Hustle co-CEO Jason Jeter, Hip-Hop fly jock Greg Street, Rap-A-Lot Records CEO James Prince, fashion entrepreneur Gino Green and Swishahouse Records CEO Michael “5000” Watts.

The?dinner was held at Luda’s new restaurant, Straits (793 Juniper St. NE in Midtown Atlanta). The grand opening of straits was held the night before.? Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute?held a press conference the other day to announce the start of?their new organization.? The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, Inc. (FFAWN) is an organization whose mission is to inspire women from all walks of life to reach their individual potential.? Through scholarships, grants, and programs that foster strong self-esteem, career development, and personal growth, FFAWN is intended to help women gain the confidence and skills they need to achieve success.? FFAWN will initially focus its efforts in Yonkers, NY and surrounding communities in Westchester and then expand its scope to include the Greater New York area and, eventually, the entire country.

Flix ~ Ne-Yo’s Mother’s Day Brunch @ The Loft in Castleberry Hill

Ne-yo held his annual?Mother’s Day Brunch for 50 single and foster mothers from the metro Atlanta area Sunday at the Loft in Castleberry Hill.? The event was invitation only and?was sponsored to raise awareness of the need to drastically reform the U.S. foster care?system.? Ne-yo’s mother was present, however Ne-yo?was unable to attend this year’s event.??Don’t worry though, John Legend took up?the slack and?gave the?mothers a heartfelt performance.?

On a side note, Sandra Rose is reporting that Andre “3000” Benjamin’s mother, affectionately known in the “A” as “Ma Benjamin” was also unable to attend the event due to damage received to her fayetteville?home during Sunday morning’s?tornados.? We wish her the best and pray for all of the families affected by this weekend’s storms.
