A Chicago-based R&B singer has been arrested in connection to a shooting at a Buckhead Hotel.

According to Atlanta police, they responded to a “shots fired” call on December 1 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel on Peachtree Road and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

According to Atlanta’s Fox-5, a woman at the scene, later identified as singer and songwriter, Ann Marie, allegedly told an officer that “a gun fell off of a table in the hotel room which caused the gun to go off hitting the victim.”

The arriving officer wrote in the police report that Ann Marie was found screaming hysterically, and had to be removed from the hotel room where the shooting happened.

The officer noted in the report that the victim, a 24-year-old-old man, had a head injury but was somewhat responsive, and responded to questions. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

Ann Marie continued asking officers if the victim was ok or dead, and she reportedly told another officer she and the victim grew up together and they were from Chicago visiting Atlanta.

Ann Marie, whose real name is Joann Marie Slater, was booked at the Fulton County Jail for possession of a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The singer reportedly has a prior record for simple battery from last November when she was released on a $1500 bond.

It is not confirmed if this will hinder her defense, but being that she is not a first time offender, it’s clear she’s going to have an uphill battle.

Ann Marie is best known for her 2018 single “Secret” with YK Osiris, which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart and has garnered over 82 million views on YouTube.

I’ve never heard of the singer, but her fans have been sounding off on Twitter about the incident, with some alleging that she caught her boyfriend cheating, and that’s the reason why he was shot. There have even been comparisons to the Megan Thee Stallion/Tory Lanez shooting.

For the record, the allegations have not been confirmed by law enforcement officials who are still investigating the crime.
