Queen Bee was a surprise opening act for the 2016 BET Awards.

It wasn?t announced that Beyonce would be involved in this year?s awards show, but she and Kendrick Lamar opened with a powerful performance of ?Freedom,? from Beyonce?s Lemonade album.

Beyonce also took home the award for ?Video of The Year? for ?Formation.?

However, even though she was present at the beginning of the show, she was gone by the time her name was called so her mom, Tina Lawson, graciously accepted the award on Beyonce’s behalf, stating:

?On behalf of my daughter who is on a plane who had to get on a plane to do to London for her next show?that?s how important this show was to her.?.

I like to thank her husband Jay Z and her daughter? and BET who has always supported her.
