An image of a restaurant receipt posted online went viral a few days ago.
Apparently, the patron left no tip AT ALL on a dining bill totaling $138.55!
Instead, the cheapskate signed the receipt with ?Single Mom, sorry“ and to add insult to injury, further noted “Thank You, It was great.”
This goes out to all the single mamas…
The photo of the receipt was originally posted on Reddit and the poster, PhoenixSongFawkes, noted:
Not trying to create another argument over tips, but if you do this, FUCK YOU!
I’m sure $140 could have gotten you and your kids a week worth of groceries, but instead you spend it one one meal?! For shame!
PhoenixSongFawkes, who has been a server for seven years and posted the photo for a friend, goes on to state:
It doesn’t matter if she tipped or not. The point of this post was that her writing ‘sorry single mom’ was unnecessary.
Another disgruntled poster noted:
And this is why many restaurants automatically charge you X% for a tip when the bill is above a certain amount, or there are a certain number of people in the party.
People are scumbags.
The original poster soon received tons of criticism surrounding the ‘single mom’ note, but he went on to clarify (again) that it was in no way a jab at ‘single moms,’ but was meant to show how poorly some people tip.
Whoa whoa whoa. I am in no way trying to make all single moms look like assholes. Just because one single mom did something like this doesn’t mean I’m saying all single moms are like that.
I completely understand your desire for proof. And if I had it I’d give it. I found the photo on a friends site. Was told it was from one of her friends.
This wasn’t posted to give single moms a bad name in any way. I have single mom friends that are some of the best moms I’ve ever known. I am actually upset because I didn’t realize that’s what some people were thinking. The post was to show that some people think it’s okay to leave an excuse instead of a tip. If she just wouldn’t have tipped it would have been just another stiff. I absolutely was not trying to give single moms a bad name. I do not generalize people.
Many speculate that the diner probably wasn’t really a single parent, or at least not one who couldn?t afford a tip.?
Seriously… if the person could afford a $138 dollar meal, surely they could afford to tip on the tab…. or perhaps they should have opted for Mickie D’s.
For the record, single moms have increasingly been used as the butt of jokes and personally I don’t believe if it were, they would have noted on the receipt.
And no… I’m not a single mother… or a “mother” at all for that matter.
I’m just a woman who feels as though society’s problems don’t all fall on the shoulders of unwed mothers, but instead lies on the backs of conservatives who frequently use women and women’s issues as tools for judgment.
Exhibit A:
What are you thoughts about the viral restaurant receipt?
Do you think a “single mother” really left the note or is this merely a conservative ploy to place blame on unwed mothers?
