Apparently CNN Anchor Don Lemon (pictured above with Usher) was the hot topic on twitter yesterday after he “came out” to all of his followers as being homosexual.

The 45 year old face of CNN’s prime time news show, tweeted a link to a NY Times article that featured his new book, Transparent. A book where he details his life in the news industry as an African-American Gay male.

According to the article he never made a secret of his sexual orientation in his work life; but he acknowledged that going public in his book carried certain risks.

?It?s quite different for an African-American male,? he said. ?It?s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You?re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away.?

He said he believed the negative reaction to male homosexuality had to do with the history of discrimination that still affects many black Americans, as well as the attitudes of some black women.

?You?re afraid that black women will say the same things they do about how black men should be dating black women.? He added, ?I guess this makes me a double minority now.?

After making his shocking on-air confession to members of Bishop Eddie Long’s church that he himself had been the victim of molestation as a young boy (click HERE if you missed that), Lemon felt that people would automatically assume he was coming out soon.

But it wasn’t that painful confession that prompted Lemon to reveal his true self to the world, he merely felt it was time to stand in his truth.

?I think if I had seen more people like me who are out and proud, it wouldn?t have taken me 45 years to say it,? Mr. Lemon said, ?to walk in the truth.?

While I applaud Lemon’s decision to go “public” with his sexual orientation, was it ever a secret that he was Gay?? I mean… seriously. Who DIDN’T know? 😯

At any rate, I’m sure that weight has been lifted off of his shoulder and hopefully he can continue to succeed and live in peace.? I also expect Lemon’s “revelation” will give others the courage to come out as well.
