You know how one person’s gold is another’s garbage and vice versa?
Well Academy Award winning actress/comedienne/talk show host Mo’Nique doesn’t place a huge value that solid gold statue she received for her role in Precious.
In fact, in the April 2011 issue of Ebony magazine, Mo-Apostrophe-Nique (? Freshalina) reveals to writer Toure that she keeps her Oscar in her pantry between the fruit loops & canned spam. (I kidd… but not really!)
Mo’nique explains in detail where she keeps the golden statue below:
Last year, you won a best-supporting-actress Oscar for your role in Precious. Where is it?
The Oscar is in what?s considered to be a butler?s pantry. It?s a small hallway that has a counter in it. It?s across the hall from the kitchen and the bathroom.
It?s not in plain view?
You would have to look for it. You couldn?t just walk in my house and see it, I would have to show you where it is. It?s not hiding but you?d have to be looking for it.
Is that not wanting to look at it every day and not wanting to become complacent?
You can?t look at it every day, because you?ll look at it collecting dust. You?re appreciative of the trophy, and you know keep it movin?.
Everybody wants to know how the Oscar changed my life. My life was amazing before they called my name on that stage that night, and my life is still amazing since they called my name on that stage that night.
Well there you have it… straight from the talk show host’s own lips.
It’s not like Mo’Nique has had a slew of movie roles since her Oscar winning performance, so it seems that winning the coveted award did absolutely nothing for career.
Which may explain why the BET talk show host didn’t see a problem with breaking the award show’s tradition of having the previous year’s winner present to the current winner by NOT appearing at the 2011 ceremony.

Oh well… life goes on.
