Andre’ “3000” Benjamin is more than your average rapper….he’s an actor dammit! When he’s not speeding his Porsche down I75 at the speed of light, Dre’ can be caught somewhere reciting lines and practicing his acting chops.
His role as one of the FOUR BROTHERS was dayum near Oscar worthy. So much so, that they wanna bring him back for the sequel. Now, I’d be lying if I said I even remember the 2005 film, but Dre’s still a brother…. despite what you may have heard.
The original movie, directed by John Singleton, revolved around four adopted brothers, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Dre’ and Garrett Hedlund, who come together to avenge the death of their mother, who died in what at first appeared to be a random robbery.
The film wasn’t a box office blowout, but still grossed about $74 million in domestic boxoffice. Well apparently, the sequel is in the works and the “brothers” will reunite.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, FIVE BROTHERS is currently in the development stages and plot details are being kept under wraps. The only “brother” definite to return is Mark Wahlberg, who actually hatched the sequel idea with the original writers.
For the record, Dre’ hasn’t completely abandoned you fans who wanna see he and Twan back on stage as Outkast. In fact, he was kind enough to drop a verse on Twan’s solo CD, Sir Lucious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty which drops March 23rd. So you’ll just have to keep the faith and hold on to hope cause all isn’t lost. Yet.
In my best “Goldie” from The Mack voice… “Muthaf*cker can you buy that…?”
