Check out the extended trailer for the Biggie Smalls biopic, Notorious. The movie will be in theaters January 16th but one of several pre-release screenings was held in Atlanta last night. The event, hosted by Blue Flame (Bad Boy Ent.?s Marketing Company), was held at AMC Fork & Screen Buckhead ~ formerly AMC Backlot, a theater with a full bar and food service ~ and was already filled to capacity by the time I sauntered in at 7:15pm. I was expecting a highfalutin red carpet event like they had in NYC last week, but was greeted by what appeared to be a mass mobbing at the guest-list table. Upon investigation, I learned that word of the private event had somehow gotten out to the public and the poor organizers had to accommodate several Atlanta celebs and socialites who weren’t originally expected.
The small theater was filled to capacity very early, so Cee-Lo, Big Gipp, Killer Mike, Trey Songz, Slim & Q (from 112) all mingled in the lobby while the organizers scurried about trying to make things work. Soon enough, an announcement was made that there would be a 2nd screening at 10:00pm to accommodate everyone on the list. Since it was only 8:00, I decided to head over to Phipps for a bit of window shopping and when I returned around 9:15, the bar was poppin and all the chaos had died down. I greeted DJ Drama at the door and overheard someone stating that there was an open bar. Apparently, the organizers decided to quiet the natives with liquor and it worked! The 10:00 show started promptly we laughed til we cried. Don’t worry…even though you know the ending, I won’t spoil it for you. Just know that my favorite part of the entire movie was Diddy’s character. Three words…funny “A”zz Hell!
All in all, the 2nd screening went off without a hitch, although I heard later that DJ Drama was involved in an altercation in the parking lot and that a 2nd person was robbed of their jewelry while leaving. A sad ending to a positive evening.
