It’s been nearly four years since Frank Ski decided to leave Atlanta airwaves, but he’s back and many think that his return may create a morning show shake up!
The popular radio host once held the top spot at ATL’s V-103 radio station, but chose to leave his coveted ‘Frank & Wanda’ morning show spot after a lengthy dispute over salary and syndication.
Frank returned to V-103 airwaves this morning alongside current morning show host, Ryan Cameron, to announce that he’s officially returning to the station tomorrow.
Just last week, Frank Ski posted the photo above as he stood next to a V-103 sign along with the announcement, “The word is out! Atlanta, I’m back!”
According to the AJCRadioTV blog, Ski will return to V-103 airwaves tomorrow (April 23) and will be on air Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sundays from 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
“We’re excited about bringing Frank on,” said Rick Caffey, senior vice president and market manager for CBS Radio Atlanta.
“He’s an addition to an already deep lineup. Where most stations have prime time Monday through Friday, ours is really seven days a week and now we have another pillar of talent on Saturdays and Sundays.”
Ski left Atlanta’s CBS affiliate V-103 in late 2012 after 14 years as morning host, most of it spent as No. 1 in the market, to take his show national. He moved to Washington D.C. where he’s hosted the afternoon show on WHUR-FM of the past two years.
Ski left that D.C. in September and it seems that he’s eyeing a return to his former morning show spot.
As you know, Ryan Cameron took over the morning show position and through a series of trial and error, ended up with the EXACT same format as his predecessor. Cameron subsequently added Wanda Smith as his co-host after several failed attempts to choose his own. He also now does the ‘inspirational vitamin’ just like Frank Ski.
While it would appear obvious that Ski will return to the morning show at some point, V-103 execs state that it’s not happening immediately…
“We were very happy with our existing lineup. We love what Ryan (Cameron) and Wanda (Smith) have done in the morning and Big Tigger in the afternoon, so we had no space in that area. But we tried to find a creative way to make it happen.”
The addition of Ski on weekends won’t affect any current programming, but he’s certainly going to make his presence known.
“Larry (Tinsley) will still be on 7 a.m. to noon (on Sundays). We would never mess with that,” Caffey said.
“What we’re looking at doing is that instead of just playing music, we’re now going to have a big personality (on the weekends). The whole V-103 family is excited to have Frank back.”
Frank Ski’s return to V-103 seems to be somewhat of a big deal. He’s been making appearance on several local news stations to announce his return, which seems a bit odd considering he’s merely returning for a weekend hosting gig.
Whatever the case, Frank Ski’s back. It’ll be interesting to see what other changes will be made over the next few months…
