As promised, here’s more of my one on one chat with Apollo Nida, the husband of Phaedra Parks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
In Part One, of my exclusive interview, Apollo and I spoke about the pre-nup advice he gave Todd Tucker on Kandi’s Wedding show (click HERE if you missed that).
In parts two & three of my interview, the popular ‘househusband’ shares why he feels it’s time to be more outspoken on the show.
The reason for being outspoken is because… like I told everyone, enough’s enough.
I’ve been quiet… I’ve been dormant for 4 years. If God allows us to have another season, it’ll be 5. But at some point you just have to say ‘this isn’t who I am’… I’m not this little puppet guy back here, I’m very opinionated. We can talk about politics, religion… it doesn’t matter. We can go there.
I’m more than just a face.
Apollo also opens up about his background, feelings about media criticism, relationship issues & his ‘Being Mary Jane’ audition.
Details + watch parts 2 & 3 of my exclusive one on one with Apollo Nida below…
Apollo on the blogs dissing his relationship with Phaedra Parks…
They say all publicity is good publicity, but we’re human too! It’s like… I try to act like it doesn’t exist but then I read something and I’m like… ‘how can you think like that’… If I was a deadbeat… if I was no good… just a jailbird… whatever… you’re talking about an educated woman with many many accolades under her belt. You don’t think with all of that…. that she can pick a man??? Let’s think about that. People don’t think about that part. There’s something that I had to offer.
Apollo on relationships and how he took fellow ‘househusband’ Peter Thomas’ advice:
I admire Peter. He told me a long time ago that hindsight is 20/20. Don’t be that person that says ‘I already know’…. you thought you knew, but there could be another way. He gave me some advice and he was like ‘look, you need to figure this thing out and ride it out.’
Like him and Cynthia, we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors but as far as what you see, their supportive. She supports Bar One, it’s become a brand name…. the same thing with The Bailey Agency, they carry both hand in hand. It’s unity. So for me and my wife, and Peter & Cynthia, they resonate with the RELATIONSHIPS not with the individuals. It’s call Real ‘HOUSEWIVES’ of Atlanta… meaning, there’s a spouse.
Apollo also spoke about wanting to break into acting and he revealed to me during the interview that he even interviewed for BET’s hit show ‘Being Mary Jane’…
I had a role in that that I auditioned for… I didn’t make it, but I auditioned.
Apollo on his background:
I come from a very impoverished background.? My mom OD’d on heroin in front of me… I’ve lived in the streets, I’ve been homeless… I’ve been tossed back and forth between various people.? I didn’t start school til 3rd grade… literally.
My great aunt picked me up when I was about 10 or 11.? She just happened to seem me in the streets and tooke me in.
I come from a very racist background (I’m mixed German and Black) and so growing up you hear the N-word and have low self-esteem… but for me it’s like repellant.
Apollo on dealing with his legal issues:
I try to stay focused on a higher power and know that there is a God…. and know that something else is guiding me.
Psychologically they say that your upbringing will make you who you are… but why can’t I pull out the positive out it.
Special shout out to Chris Mitchell (CME3000) for the videography.
