Since the segment aired showing Bailey’s baby daddy, actor Leon, actually staying in their house during a visit to Atlanta, Peter & Cynthia have been given major side-eye.
For some odd reason, it’s a NEGATIVE thing for the trio to get along for the sake of their daughter, Noelle, and many have called Cynthia a “PIMP” for having 2 men in her household, while others suspect there’s some freaky ish going on.
A few days ago, I wrote about Cynthia’s fellow cast mate/bff Nene Leake‘s ‘New Normal’ when it comes to her and Gregg’s “unconventional” relationship (click HERE if you missed that), but I neglected to mention Cynthia and her dilemma.
A friend brought up Halle Berry‘s current situation and offered up a comparison….
You may have heard by now, but Berry’s supermodel baby daddy Gabriel Aubry posed for the mugshot above after he and her current boo, Oliver Martinez got into an altercation as he was dropping off their daughter on Thanksgiving day.
The fight left Aubry, who earns a living with his extraordinary good looks, with a black eye and horribly bruised in the face.
Berry and the Nanny both say Aubry initiated the fight by pushing and shoving Martinez, and it was those witness statements which figured into the decision to arrest Aubry.
Aubry is still due in court Dec. 13th to face those charges, however the custody battle that he and Berry had been battling has been quietly settled.
Now… let’s compare these two situations for a moment and WARNING! I’m about to pull the race card.
Peter and Leon are two Black men who are actually getting along for the sake of the child. One even legally married the baby mama!
Then we have Gabriel & Oliver, who actually got into a fistfight in front of the child. Halle and Oliver are just “shacking” up at the moment” and she was never married to either man.
I offer the two comparisons to ask the following question:
Why is it that we vilify the two Black men in Bailey’s life who get along wonderfully for the sake of the family unit, but the two WHITE men who acted a fool get a free pass, with most men I know even empathizing with the situation?
Clearly there are no right or wrong answers to my question, but it’s definitely something to think about and I’d love to hear YOUR take…..

I personally don’t see any comparison. Situations are completely different. Also,can’t see why anyone would suggest inappropriateness with Leon staying over with his daughter. He was at Cynthia’s wedding. He’s an example of a great father and she’s a great mother and it’s reflected in their daughter. Also like to add that I am THRILLED Aubrey got his azz thoroughly kicked by a stand up man. Halle, he’s a keeper.

Halle did NOT use Gabriel. They were in an exclusive, committed relationship for 5 years. I find it interesting that Gabriel has made 0 effort to work since he and Halle began dating but in YOUR mind, that is more than OK. Halle has also NEVER publicly trashed him, but his ex-girlfriends as well as HIS friends have testified about his character flaws. Gabriel made 1-2 million dollars last year of his own money. So he’s still working. He has his own fragrance. He still models. We may not see his pics but he’s still making money. I agree. Halle wanted a sperm donor. She said plain as day before she hit 40 that whomever she was dating that she would turn to them and say "hey wanna have a baby?". Michael Ealy was smart enough to turn her down. Gabe she sold a dream of happiness because they went house shopping in Canada. All he wants is access to her child and she is trying to move to France with the baby. They all wrong for letting this go down in front of her baby.
Olivier Martinez is a serial cheater. He has other women on the side even though he is engaged to Halle. When Halle starts to blame him for her failing career he will leave her as well. He is not a keeper.He only wants Gabriel out of the picture so that he can get a piece of Halle’s money.
I don’t know ANYONE who has spoken badly about the way Cynthia, Leon (AKA David Ruffin) & Peter co-parents Noelle! Its actually a beautiful thing and RARE (not just in the black community). I think people are empathizing with the whole Gabe & Olivér smackdown, because Halle knew better than to have her NEW MAN outside when her OLD MAN was dropping off their daughter! It was clearly a hostile situation, especially after losing that "take Nahla to France" request was denied by a judge! Halle is the one to blame!!

I thought it was interesting that Leon was staying over, but I didn’t have a big issue with it. It’s Cynthia’s business. Cynthia probably considers Leon family, so she figures that it is easier for her daughter (and cheaper for Leon- avoiding hotel fees) for Leon to stay with her.
I wonder if Leon may be having major money problems. As Tori said, he hasn’t had a major role in a long time. This may just be a goodwill gesture on Cynthia’s part, as long as Leon doesn’t cause any trouble.

I’m a man with a child by another woman who is now married. Now we don’t live in the same state but I took 2 wks off from work for Thanksgiving so I could fly out to spend time with my child.
Not once did it ever cross my mind to ask the mother of my child and her husband if I could stay with them. Even if they offered the answer would be no! I mean c’mon son? Shit made for T.V!

This discussion as well as the comments confirm just how cynical and immature we have become. I’m proud to say that my parents help the greatest respect for themselves and each other, even after divorce but most of all, their love for me was top priority. Although he probably wouldn’t, there would not be a problem for either of them or my stepfather, if my father stayed in their home. My father and stepfather’s birthday was one day apart, so my mother planned a joint birthday party for them the first year she remarried. Because of the amazing example they lived in front of me, my husband and I, created a similar environment for my stepdaughter. Mature adults can transition from romantic love to familial love WITHOUT the drama. We have and have always had a beautifully blended family for 30 years.
I personally think Leon staying with them is weird-then again, Cynthia is very weird to me, so…I do appreciate their relationship and how they are raising their daughter. As for Halle, I have no sympathy for her AT ALL. I think Gabriel is a great dad. His net worth is about 4 million. He has modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Gianni Versace, and Calvin Klein. I wouldn’t classify that as being a bum. If he can make 1 million working only 2-3 months a year then so be it. Top models usually make 10k a show and more than that in fashion campaigns so they don’t usually have a 9-5 work schedule. They can due 10 shows a year with a secured fashion campaign and easy clear 1 million a year. Modeling does not require working like a dog to earn a paycheck. That is why modeling is a highly coveted profession.

It is amazing how the focus was taken off of Cynthia and placed on Halle, however, I commend Cynthia, Peter and Leon for being the "epitome of class" when it comes raising Noelle. Just because you are no longer a couple doesn’t mean that you have to have a hateful relationship towards one another. To sum it up I feel like its Co-Parenting at its best and for sure Noelle won’t be like other young ladies who have relationship issues because of the lack of a father in their lives. As far as Leon staying with them, whats the big deal? I like the fact that they had a rational discussion involving all 3 members of the family, then to seek clarification they asked the child for her input instead of become irate with each other. TV needs to have more examples of this.

People are so used to dysfunction nowadays that they actually frown upon situations that are drama free and work in the best interests of children. What Cynthia has going on is wonderful. Peter is secure enough in his relationship with his WIFE that he is not intimidated by her EX-FIANCEE sleeping in the same household. It is a sign of maturity when two men associated with the same woman can get along. I get along fine with my ex’s boyfriend. He’s a good dude. I have even encouraged my ex to marry the guy, since they have been together since 1997.
We are both good men who look after my daughter equally. Good for Peter and Leon.
Very proud, lots of mature thought-out comments above. My parents split when my siblings and I were young and we gained two great step-parents. Since we did not live in the same state, when my dad came to visit he stayed with us, so that we (the kids) could enjoy every moment with him. My step-dad was the one who initiated that arrangement and I know for myself I never saw it to be an issue, if anything; it was the coolest for us kids. Now don’t get it twisted my mom and step-dad did their own thing and we hung with my dad but, we all had an occasional meal together. With all that being said, when my ex-husband came to visit for our son’s graduation, he stayed in our (me and new husband) home. For one my kids father has MS (Muscular Sclerosis), (2) my new husband had no reason to feel insecure, (3) it’s no one else’s business how we all live our lives. I don’t believe this would be a good fit for all relationships but don’t knock it for those it does work for (Cynthia, Peter, Leon) and especially Noelle….

Getting along is great, I believe its the blending of fine lines that is questionable. People these days have grown comfortable with confusion and trying to convince everybody that their selfish choices are anything else but. Leon is a grown man and has no rational excuse to justify his sleeping under another mans roof. Cynthia needs to be honest within herself to say Leon’s being there is more for her self satisfaction than daughter, and her husband needs to grow a pair and put his foot down. Leon can be there for his daughter without being in their house. Nothing is preventing him from doing his fatherly duties except for him. The evidence is…..that Cynthia is dumb enough to jeopordize her marriage with the possibility of being accused of sleeping with the father of her child. So since there is no barriers, why can’t Leon do what he’s suppose to do as a father elsewhere??? Is there the possibility of this arrangement being an innocent one sure but I highly doubt it. In todays society, previously married people or ones in long term relations that have broken up for what ever reason arw making up any excuse to keep the exes in their lives and making their current significant other deal with it by using the kids as an excuse. I didnt give anyone in Halle’s camp props for their actions. Although I was clowining on Gabe for not knowing Oliver came from a family of boxers. I like the fact that Cynthia’s family gets a long to the point where Leon and her husband are joking in a Jamaican accent. He can afford to stay at a hotel if he likes but when I have friends who come to visit they usually stay in my home. Whats best is that everyone gets along and is civil. The Cynthia, Peter and Leon situation did not raise any flags, eyes or suspicions in my view. Since Cynthia has been on the show, she and Leon have always maintained a friendship and openess about the parenting of their daughter. Peter appears to understand this or he would not be with Cynthia. Why is this an issue? Their daughter seems to be well-balanced and rounded from the ADULT way her parents (all 3) get along. Does it matter where Leon lays his head when he is in Atlanta? No! He is spending time with his daughter. Where is the illusion of Cynthia having her cake and eating it too…NO WHERE! From the comments, it seems that most on here can not fathom being friends with their Exes, maybe they are still harboring unresolved emotions. My son’s father and I broke up over 20 years ago (he was abusive)…however, I maintained a friendship with him for the betterment of my son. To this day, he can stay at my home (with my husband) or sister’s, parents, aunts, uncle, cousins, and/or grandparents home if needs to and he lives an hour away. But..that is the way I was raised…just because a relationship does not work out..does not mean that you can not still get along and raise your children.

I don’t see any similarities in these two families at all. With Halle I get so tickled at how once upon a time she was every straight man’s dream of a woman and every gay man’s vision of perfection. Chile this woman has issues and makes terrible choices in men. When it is all said and done she laid down and made the baby with him…broke…rich…crazy…normal DEAL WITH IT! I can’t stand when one parent wants to move on with their lives so they try to take the child along for the joy ride and “x” the other parent out. She didn’t make that baby alone and therefore since the little girls father is alive and allegedly in his right mind he should definitely have the opportunity to be just as active of a parent as she. Their daughter always has a blank look on her face and show very little emotion I wont say what I am thinking but she deserves familiarity and a solid routine.
As for Cynthia…I commend them for being able to all come together the way they do (even if it is just for tv lol) it shows co-parenting and step-parenting in a positive light which we don’t see very often. If it works for them…great! I have two step kids that I love and adore as my own but baby there is no way in hell their mama’s spending the night at my house. For us we have to draw the line somewhere. Yes they have been in my home and yes they have access to me just as well as my husband and yes we are ALL are very active in the kids lives…heck we are even active in their other kids lives that aren’t biologically linked to my husband. Let me be clear it has nothing to do with being insecure at all. If a man/woman is going to cheat then that is what they will do no matter what. We just personally feel like boundaries needed to be set and followed. It works for all of us and the kids are all happy.
Kudos to Cynthia and Leon for raising a daughter who seems respectful, well rounded and smart. Hopefully Kim and Kroy will take notes since those girls seem to do their own thing…
