A few months ago, the net was abuzz after fans of “Saved By The Bell” saw a few recent photos of Lark Voorhies.

After photos spread of Lark’s drastic appearance change, there were rumors that she was suffering from Lupus or some other disease, but that wasn’t the case.
Sadly the once beautiful 38 year old actress is battling a similar disorder as fellow child star Maia Campbell.

ABCNews reports that life has taken a downturn for Voorhies since her days as Lisa Turtle on “Saved by the Bell.”
Bipolar disorder is a condition in which people go back and forth between periods of a very good or irritable mood and depression. The “mood swings” between mania and depression can be very quick.
Typically, during a manic phase, a person’s appearance changes abruptly: the style of dress may become more sexually provocative or flamboyant, or disheveled and slovenly.
Lark’s mom, Tricia, recently revealed to People magazine that the actress has been battling the disorder.
“There are things that have traumatized her,” she said.
“I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life.”
Lark, who shares a home with her mother, was also interviewed by the magazine and she denied that she has a mental disorder.
When asked about her mother’s statements, Voorhies replied:
“Oh no,” she said, when asked if she’s bipolar.
“We’re alive in a major time of all-in-all prophecy.”
Voorhies then reportedly stared into space and mumbled “to herself or to others who weren’t there” during the interview.
When the interviewer asked her to explain her bizarre behavior, Voorhies said,
“I have a strong spiritual sense. You caught me in moments of pray.”

Why is it that so many of our child stars are suffering from some sort of mental illness? What the hell did Hollyweird do to those kids?
It’s sad and weird to see this. Of course her appearance was also affected by plastic surgery. A "change of mood" doesn’t make you look like that. I’d like to see video from that interview where she "lost it". She does look bonkers though
No ma’am. She sounds more schizophrenic more than anything and its much more serious than bipolar. Bipolar people have mood swings. Schizos talk to imaginary people, their appearance is completely off, and their reality ain’t nowhere here on earth.

Any mental illness is no joke. Humans with bipolar disorder are just difficult to grasp because of the differences. Taking meds and the right approach to life helps control the moods and episodes. Be healthy for yourself and those that love you.
I have to agree with the other person. You don’t sound educated because if you were you’d know that people who suffer bipolar disorder also talk to themselves, rambling out loud about epiphanies, things they need todo urgently which aren’t urgent, and many other thoughts. Just because u watch law and order doesn’t mean u know anything. I know this because I have worked in education programs dealing with students with childhood schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

I agree with your opinion. She’s not manic in her interviews; her language difficulties and dead eyes, the mummbling and talking to non-existent others reported by people, are more consistent with schizophrenia; depression and psychosis can appear to be bi-polar and she might welll have received medications and a "softened" diagnosis. It’s clear she has some kind of organic brain syndrome. I agree her affect is more of a person with schizophrenia

How to Be a Player is the name of the movie you are referring to. I hope Ms. Voorhies gets the help she needs. I have seen meds change the appearance of folks faces so I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Now if she looks like Big Ang a couple of years from now, then we know she was under the knife

I did not know being bipolar made you light skinned. The appearance may change but not from dark to light, if anything stress and (swimming) will give you two shades of black. I will need to see the scientific evidence to back up natural pigmentation changes. Besides she doesn’t look different. She wasn’t dark back then. Looks like bad make up and too much botox. That will traumatize you.

I believe she may have a disorder but i also think she was or is on drugs.

Jennifer Lewis is bipolar but still looks great…I think this is the cause of something else… Being bipolar does not phuck up your face like that….
Her mom said her divorce rocked her real hard. People need to learn to invest in God and not other human beings. Cant be giving our soul, bodies, mind and well beings to a man/woman. Because when it ends, you do not know how to pick up the pieces and move on.
The bible says to take your memories to God and he will work you through that pain to where it does not hurt anymore.

I agree with Shay Shay sounds like schizophrenic..I know someone with Bipolar disorder and they have never looked like this…their appearance has NEVER changed…praying for Lark…..
you do realize that every person with bipolar disorder isnt the same, right? her change in appearance can be a byproduct of her bipolar disorder because when ppl dont take their meds they make risky decisions and do things that don’t make sense to us. she’s apparently not been on meds so she probably started doing things to herself bc she sees something different when she looks in the mirror.
This is my first time commenting on this site…. I come here on a regular though. Any way. I have a cousin who is schizophrenic. She started out BAD but now with her meds she’s a little better. Something is still off with her. I don’t think she will ever live a normal life and she’s only 26. I pray that Lark is getting the help she needs and hope she isn’t on illegal drugs… That’s wht we thought was wrong with my cousin… Everyone handles things differently.
That evil industry will turn you unstable. I think something happens to these people when they hit Hollywood or somehing. There is somethings that go on behind the scenes, that may change them psychologically.Sad.
Spot On! Some of these stars, once they realize that in order to stay relevent they must submit to the enemy which is satan, can’t handle that reality. So, they come off to us as someone crazy or mental. When in actuality like Dave Chappelle said maybe the environment that they have gotten into is just a little sick. He pointed out a few examples. Like Martin Lawrence running into the street with a gun naked talking about someone was trying to kill him. Anybody ever wonder how come there are always cameras around to film these episodes. Because, once these people make a choice that their soul is worth more than their success then the image that was created for them that we all know and love must then be destroyed. Which is what happened with Martin and even Dave Chappelle himself. Those who stay true to the Most high always go through this. Some people who are going through right now are DMX and also Mariah Carey was on the fence for a while but she eventually signed on with Satan. Remeber when all her songs were talking about the Lord or God. What is she singing about in her latter records? Just Open your eyes folks. Look around you at the stars who were so big. Look at Lauryn Hill.

That is so sad. My friends mother is bipolar and schizophrenic. If she’s on her meds she is fine, but if she is off, she goes into rages. She gained a lot of weight while on some of the meds in the beginning and looked different, but now she seems fine. She had moved away from her family for awhile and when she came back she was different. Like Lark’s mom said about Lisa being traumatized, that is what happened to my friends mother. Something happened to her when she moved away from her family and refuses to tell anyone what happened. I think maybe she fell into prostitution or was raped or something and is too embarrassed to talk about it. Keeping her trauma inside somehow created the illness.

It was rumored years ago she had a drug prob, but obviously her illness was going on then.
Lark, Maia and Lisa Nicole Parker I believe is her name from Ally McBeal Show. All beautiful women that have the same terrible illness that ruined their careers.
Maybe she had issues with drugs. Maia campbell was on drugs and they said she was bi polar
I thought my friend’s mother who I commented about above was on drugs too, but everyone was bent on saying she had a mental illness. But I still think drugs played a role regardless what they say.
I hated to hear about this. Her mom alluded to the fact that Lark went through some MAJOR things that caused her mentality to move in this direction.
Lark was a part of Hollywood, and there is no telling what happened to her and what people did to her behind the scenes. Look at all of the disgusting things coming out about child abuse at the BBC.
I don’t know what happened to Lark but I wish her well, and hope that she has regained peace of mind from whatever happened to her. She may or may not have used drugs. I don’t know her personally but haven’t we heard these types of stories again and again about former child stars, who somehow lost it all and fell apart for whatever reason? Whatever the cause of her change in appearance or behavior, be it drugs, traumatic event(s), or mental illness I do hope that she gets the help she needs.

shes either became this way naturally or she went through some sort of Post Traumatic Stress period after her failing career, or she did drugs (street or prescription, and something went wrong). She definitely has Salad speech which is Schizophrenia..I feel so bad for her because i use to love her on Saved By The Bell.
I agree completely about the Schizophrenia. This isn’t just simply Bipolar. Unfortunately, once you’ve been close to it before, you can see it from a mile away. Just the way she’s describing things. Talking to herself, Salad speech, words that don’t belong in sentences, staring off into the distance…all Schizophrenic. It is sad to see because there’s no way her life will every get better.
