The L.A. County Coroner’s office has revealed details to Whitney Houston’s family about the cause of death of the iconic songstress, who was found unresponsive in a Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday.
Original reports were that the singer had been found in a suite on the 4th floor of the hotel, unconscious in a bathtub, with her head under water but new details reveal that the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a deadly concoction of prescription drugs and alcohol.

Houston’s autopsy was completed Sunday, and while the coroner is not officially saying what killed the six-time Grammy winner, family members have revealed details to the media.
According to TMZ, Coroner’s officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney’s lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned and that she may well have died well before her head became submerged.
Family sources say the autopsy revealed Whitney’s death was caused by a mixture of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol .
Mary Jones, Houston’s aunt, discovered Whitney’s body in the bathtub. Mary had laid out Whitney’s dress for the evening on the bed and then left for about a half hour. When Whitney didn’t come out of the bathroom, Mary entered, pulled Whitney out of the tub and began administering CPR.
Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said that his agency may release more details Monday about Houston’s death, but it will depend on whether detectives feel comfortable releasing any information.
Law enforcement sources told CBS News that while there were no illegal substances found in Houston’s hotel room, but there were prescription drugs. Authorities said the most likely theories for Houston’s death are that she died of a heart attack or a prescription drug overdose.
The family was told the Coroner has no problem releasing the body because there is no evidence of foul play and unless cops put a hold on the body, it can be flown back East.
Whitney’s mother has reportedly arranged to have the singer’s body flown back to Atlanta, as early as tomorrow where she will be laid to rest.

According to the AJC, Houston’s body will be transported to New Jersey (Not Atlanta) via Tyler Perry’s private jet.
Whitney Houston’s body will be flown to her native New Jersey, according to a number of recent bulletins, although numerous earlier reports indicated the singer’s remains would be transported for burial in Atlanta.
TMZ has just reported that her remains will be flown east on Tyler Perry’s private plane:

Whitney Houston will be GREATLY missed, I grew up listening to Whitney and fell in love with her and her musical talents/voice then!
CNN is reporting that her mother is having her body brought to NJ. This is so sad. Whitney felt like family to everyone. We were in love with her and her voice she will be missed.
Does that surprise any of you? Even if the crack didn’t kill her the years of abuse took its toll on her! It is sad she died but no one heard about her for years and now suddenly that she is dead everyone is mortified. It is sick really to pay tribute to someone who once was an icon and now another statistic! Ava, seems like you’re the only one that got it right on the burial. When I first read this TMZ article about Whitney’s body being flown to Atlanta, it made no sense. Whitney was a Jersey girl, why the hell would they bury her in Atlanta. So she and Bobby lived in Atlanta for a few years that doesn’t equate to a final burial. Jersey was always her home and her family is there. That’s why I gave no credence to this hasty lie from TMZ or it’s report that she died of a drug overdose even though we know that PRESCRIPTION drugs were found in her hotel room. This cannot be true, given the length of time it takes for toxicology results to come in. I believe it was probably natural causes as a result of her lifestyle. Even if she got a clean bill of health from her doctor, her organs, especially her heart, probably took a beating from those years of drug use and drinking.
RIP Whitney, definitely gone far too soon. I have to ride with Ava on this one. That relationship always seemed suspect from the start. Whitney was a grown woman (drug addiction aside) and was responsible for her own actions. That said, what would a 48 year old woman of her celebrity & status want with a bottom feeding z lister that is at least 16 years younger than her? Then factor in the whole drug thing and Ray J (& Brandy) looks like he (they) smoke every tree in the woods. All of you people looking to blame Ray J or Bobby Brown for Whitney’s death are being ridiculous. If, and I do mean if, Whitney died from drugs, it appears that they were all prescribed since that was the only types of drugs found in her suite. Since when did Ray J become a doctor? So why blame him? Legal, prescription drugs are just as hazardous, dangerous and deadly as illegal drugs… don’t get it twisted.

In hindsight if Whitney did die from drugs (prescribed or otherwise) if he was that close to her, he had to know she was doing them… that there was a PROBLEM. The coroner just finished speaking on CNN and he seemed Pissed. He said he NEVER told a family member or ANY ONE details about what happened to Whitney. He said he NEVER said she had ANYTHING in her system nor did he say she drowned he doesnt know where this FALSE information is coming from and the toxicology report will be released in 6 to 8 weeks. The police investigator said basically the same thing. I guess her history is causing people to lie/speculate but according to the people handling the case and body they haven’t released any official statements to anyone in reguards to what happen to her.

You can get preliminary autopsy results within 24 hours. I ordered one on a family member and the pathologist called the next day following the death with a preliminary report. The final report came 7 weeks later. So these rumors might, in fact, be true. Final toxicology reports can take over a month. In short, I think they have a good handle on why she died and this information has been communicated to the family.
