Several artists have honored Prince since his untimely death, but nothing compares to D’Angelo.
The crooner paid an emotional homage to the late great musical mastermind during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night (April 26, 2016).
Having admitted that Prince was a major influence on his style, D’Angelo sat amidst a purple lighted stage as he performed a heartfelt cover of Prince’s ‘Sometimes it Snows in April.’? ?During the performance, the singer replaced the name “Tracy” in the song, with the name of the legendary artist that we will miss so much, singing, “I often dream of heaven and I know that Prince is there.”
That’s when D’Angelo gets too emotional to continue. He pauses, takes a breath to go into the next line, and stops. Backup singers, Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum, finish the lyrics for him, singing “I know that he has found another friend.”
