Freeman’s lawyer sent a 10-page letter to media giant CNN, demanding that a retraction of it’s report about sexual misconduct allegations against the actor.
Details below…
Freeman, 80, threatened to sue the news network after the cable news channel aired its report on May 24.
The 10-page legal letter, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, is addressed to Jeff Zucker, president of CNN, and claims the story has defamed and “inflicted serious injury” on Freeman’s reputation and career.
“At a minimum, CNN immediately needs to issue a retraction and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels, and with the same level of attention, that it used to unjustly attack him on May 24.
Morgan?s lawyer also demanded that CNN apologize to at least 2 of the ?victims? who claim to have been misquoted by the news outlet.
CNN also needs to retract the portions of the story that concern Lori McCreary and apologize to her for defaming and injuring her.
CNN’s president, Jeff Zucker, says the network stands by its reporting. Zucker responded to the demand in a statement provided to The Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday.
The unfounded accusations made by Mr. Freeman?s lawyer are disappointing and are difficult to reconcile with Mr. Freeman?s own public statements in the aftermath of the story.
CNN stands by its reporting and will respond forcefully to any attempt by Mr. Freeman or his representatives to intimidate us from covering this important public issue.
We discussed this issue last night during my YouTube LIVE call-in show last night and there was a lot of interesting feedback.
Many feel that since Freeman has not been charged with a crime in this situation, he’s been unjustly criticized and that there seems to be a mission to destroy his legacy. ?
It will be interesting to see how far the legendary actor goes in pursuing this legally.
