Rapper/singer Nicki Minaj caught a lot of flack online and off when she revealed the cover art for her latest single, ‘Lookin Ass Nigga’.
The cover featured the iconic ‘rifle’ photograph of Malcolm X and the net went crazy with many stating it was the ultimate disrespect, in light of the fact that Black History month is upon us.
The photo sparked huge backlash for the controversial rapper.
A Change.org petition was created, which drew thousands of signatures, urging a boycott to stop her from??dishonoring the life and contributions of one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.?
Another petition was created by activist Kevin Powell, who made the point that Malcolm X?s reason for carrying a gun (because he was justifiably afraid for his life) isn?t comparable to Minaj?s sexualized use of guns in her video for the song.
After feeling the heat, Nicki decided to pull the cover and offered an apology online.
