?Recap of Hollywood Divas Episode #4 + watch the full episode below…
‘Black Witches’ Gets Scrapped…
Paula Jai Parker meets with a producer friend to pitch an idea.? Apparently she feels that the 5 ‘Hollywood Divas’ would be perfect as witches.? Hold up… wait! WITCHES??? Ummmkay.
The producer feels that an African-American audience wouldn’t be receptive to a ‘Black Witch’ show.
We don’t have to take the demon aspect into it. We can take it the ‘Bewitched’ route and really just dumb down the witch route and still bring in a few scares…
Paula is ultimately talked out of the idea by her producer friend, and being that it isn’t actually her ‘dream’ project she agrees that it may not be the best idea to ask her new friends to portray ‘Black’ witches.
Countess opens up in therapy…
During her therapy session, Countess Vaughn reveals that Marla Gibbs helped her work through her weight issues as a young child on the set.
Apparently one of the adult cast members on the set of 227 would call Countess ‘fat’ ‘black’ and ‘ugly’ when she was 8/9 years old and she revealed that formed her view of herself.
[Sidebar: Hmmmm… I wonder if it was Jackee’ Harry?]
Countess also revealed that when she was around 18, she did something drastic to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
It was around that age that Countess was a featured actress on The Parkers and she says that she told no one about the pregnancy and decided to handle it on her own because she knew that her show would have been canceled.
While she regrets her choice, Vaughn revealed that a lot of people were counting on her, so she just carried to burden.
Her therapist tells her ‘you did the best at the time with what you knew and what you had.’
Through tears, Countess reveals she hasn’t quite forgiven herself and that she’s emotionally, physically tired… exhausted.
Elise Neal wants to ‘FIX’ Countess Vaughn’s Style…
Elise Neal decides to ‘help’ Countess Vaughn pick out an outfit for her Assorted Flavors event.
Elise and Countess round up two of their best ‘Judys’ (i.e. good gay male friends) and meet at a plus-size boutique.
As soon as Countess walks in, she already knows she’s in the wrong store and feels as though Elise is clearly being insensitive.
Sure Countess is overweight… but thick chicks want to be fashionable too!
Countess plays along and tries on a few unflattering outfits they’ve picked out for her.? She’s clearly not into the clothing options and admits in her confessional that she feels like Elise is making fun of her.
Unless they want me to look like a real estate agent… I think she being funny.
All these Skinny girls come around and they see chunky mama and they like, ‘Oh, let me fix her.’
It’s time to talk to them about it to let them know that I’m nobody’s project, but if that’s what I’m giving off I want to have that communication to let them know the lady is not that.
Paula Jai Parker and her ‘Homeless’ Hubby…
Paula Jai Parker and her husband get together with her mom.? Paula hopes to bring her mom and her husband together on one accord, and they all have a long chat over dinner.
Paula’s mom makes it quite clear that she feels that ‘homeless hubby’ needs to get a job.? She feels that he’s dragging down her daughter and has no problem saying it.
I am tired of helping you take care of him.? I want him to go out and get a job! That’s what I want!
I want you to get a job. I don’t care what it is… 9 to 5, 4 to 12… I don’t care.
Apparently the mere mention of ‘job’ strikes a nerve and ‘homeless husband’ tells his mom in-law that he’s having a problem trying not to treat her like a ‘b*tch in the street’…. [sidebar: I’m shocked and appalled! But clearly Paula is ok with it… ]
I didn’t marry Forrest to be a provider… for financial independence.? I married Forrest to help me get over in this game.
I was tired of going on set and being molested. I was tired of going on set and being ignored. When I’m with Forrest, that doesn’t happen.
*sigh*? But according to Parker, when she got with Forrest she got blackballed so CLEARLY she’s not on any sets to get molested and/or ignored.? But I digress.
Moving on…
Lisa Wu shares good news…
During a group meeting, Lisa Wu reveals that she’s landed a role in a star studded production alongside Academy winners. Accomplished actors, Mo’Nique, Lou Gossett, Jr., Ethan Hawk, Laura Dern and more are all a part of the project and Lisa is excite about being a part of the project.
Golden isn’t too happy about Lisa sharing the news though and in her confessional, she says she feels that Lisa is ‘name dropping’ for validation and calls it ‘shameless self promotion.’
Why can’t Golden just be happy for a fellow actress??? Jealous much?
‘Black Witches’ vs ‘White Sistahs’
Paula announces to the group that the ‘Black Witch’ project is a wrap, but the ladies all feel that they want to move forward. After her earlier meeting, she was talked out the ‘Black Witches’ and now she wants to do the ‘White Sistahs,’
Elise Neal feels that Paula has put a lot of thought into HER part but the other characters seem undeveloped.
Countess gets issued the role of the younger sister who married a Heisman Trophy winner. When explaining the role, Paula tells Vaughn that she chose her for the role because she’s not the ‘typical’ person one would think would be married to a pro-athlete. (SHADE!)
Golden Brooks gets issued the role of a crack head and she doesn’t take to kindly to being placed in the role.
I’m not a crackhead… I don’t do crack. And I’ve never done drugs.
No one is happy about their role and Paula’s place as ‘head’ of the group is questioned.
Can these ‘DIVAS’ ever unite to actually ‘collaborate’ on the project? I guess we’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
