Meet 28 year old Barry Reese, aka hip-hop artist Cassidy.
Known for drinking and 2-steppin’ alongside Swizz Beatz [video], it’s been a while since we seen Cassidy but he’s apparently alive and well and now in a jail cell!
The Philadelphia-based rapper was arrested this weekend in New Jersey on a probation violation, but is also being held as a suspect in a murder case!
Details below:
According to MyFoxPhilly, Cassidy was taken into custody with incident on Saturday in Hackensack, New Jersey on a warrant issued by Philadelphia police.
The Philadelphia Police warrant squad called the Hackensack Police Department on Saturday morning to tell officers there was an open warrant for Hackensack resident Barry Reese, also known as the rapper Cassidy, Hackensack police Lt. Timothy Lloyd said.
The warrant was for violating probation, but Reese is also a suspect in a murder and two attempted murders in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police have had Cassidy under surveillance for a while now and knew from a prior investigation that the rapper lived in Hackensack.
Philadelphia authorities advised their Hackensack counterparts ?to consider this person armed and dangerous,? and this was a ?high-risk warrant.?
Officers from the Hackensack Police Emergency Response Team and the police department?s juvenile bureau watched Reese?s home all day Saturday.
He finally left the house about 1:30 p.m. , where he was followed by police to a local convenience store. An undercover ERT officer went in the store and positively identified Reese.
When Reese came out of the store, ?the ERT units moved in and conducted a felony motor vehicle stop,? Lloyd said.
Reese ?was very surprised,? and no one was injured in the arrest.
Reese is currently in custody in Jersey’s Bergen County Jail Annex but awaits extradition to Philadelphia.
The warrant issued was for violating probation and it is unclear why police felt Cassidy violated his probation.
In 2006, Cassidy was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in a West Oak Lane shooting case, and he was sentenced to 11 and a half to 23 months in jail.
Cassidy?s most well-known single is 2005?s ?I?m a Hustla,? which reached No. 8 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
