A peaceful demonstration turned into a riot Wednesday night in Oakland, California. Protestors, angry about the shooting, smashed businesses and set fires in downtown Oakland, and confronted Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums on the steps of city hall…all while yelling “No Justice No Peace.”
I posted earlier this week about the BART police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man on the subway January 1, 2009. Well, Oscar Grant, III has now been laid to rest and many are in fear of police retaliation based on the video of the murder coming out. The BART Transit Police officer who shot the the young man, Johannes Mehserle, 27, has quit the force this amidst community outrage and has also received death threats. He has also refused questioning by the police internal review board investigating his shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant but police officials claim that the officer meant to use his taser and NOT his gun…(yeah right!)
At least 105 people were arrested for a variety of offenses Wednesday night. Police said charges for those arrested included assault on a police officer, looting, vandalism and arson. Some of those detained were found to have drugs, which added another count to the charges.
Angry about the New Year’s Day shooting by a BART police officer, protesters smashed businesses and set fires in downtown Oakland, and confronted Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums on the steps of city hall.
Oakland police beefed up their prescence on the streets Thursday morning, with officers in riot gear patrolling the streets as they anticipated more protests. Businesses downtown were cleaning up, dealing with the aftermath of smashed windows and cars.
On New Year’s Day, Oscar Grant, III (above) was fatally shot in the back by a subway police officer. The event occurred on California’s Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) and was thankfully captured on film by several onlookers within the station. Video footage clearly shows that the unarmed Grant was cooperating with authorities, who had also detained several other young men. I posted the original video footage to show the inhumanity of the shooting. It is very disturbing to watch so please view at your own risk: Continue Reading…
T.I. faced his children’s mother, LaShon Dixon, in court today to dispute charges that he doesn’t adequately support his children. Tip appeared perturbed on the witness stand when asked about the size of his home as Dixon’s attorneys attempted to show the court that his income could accomodate an increase. The news reported that Dixon makes about $20,000 per year and is seeking an increase so that the kids can have the same benefits at her home as they do at T.I.’s. I’m usually on the woman’s side, but this time I’ll have to side with Tip. He argued on the stand that he works hard to support his kids and they want for NOTHING, so why should he give her extra:
“When they are with me…they have the standard of living that I have created for MY household due to all of my hard work, all of my sacrifices, all of the things that I have been able to provide. Now…if that’s not available at LaShon’s house that’s because LaShon has failed to provide…”
Clifford “T.I.” Harris is scheduled to appear in court today, Tuesday, January 6th to settle a dispute about unpaid legal fees for his baby’s mother. If you recall, he and his ex LaShon Dixon were going back in forth last September about her claims that she needed more money for their two sons, The matter was setteled in court and a judge ordered the star to pay more than $3,000 a month plus private school tuition, uninsured medical bills and various expenses racked up by the children’s extracurricular activities.
LaShon’s attorneys claim that Tip hasn’t paid the $8,000 owed in legal fees relating to their ongoing custody battle. (Source)
It’s going to be a long year for Mr. Harris…. Stay Strong!
Charles Barkley told Arizona cops that he ran a stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up a girl who had “given him a ‘blow job’ one week earlier,” which the former NBA star described as “the best one he had ever had in his life.” According to a Gilbert Police Department report, a copy of which you’ll find here, police asked Barkley where he was going at the time of the 1:26 AM traffic stop in Scottsdale. “You want the truth? I was gonna drive around the corner and get a blow job,” answered Barkley, who is pictured in the above mug shot. A cooperative Barkley also joked with a civilian police employee that, “I’ll tattoo your name on my ass” if it would get him out of the DUI charge. Barkley, 45, was busted after failing field sobriety tests, and had blood drawn so investigators could establish his alcohol content. Barkley was cited for a misdemeanor charge and released at the scene, thus avoiding a trip to the Maricopa County jail.
*sigh*….now THAT’s a Bad B! I need ole girl to come forward to claim Superheads throne!
Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins recently hit up Essence Magazine to address recent reports of her Georgia home being foreclosed:
Well, there have been reports that a Georgia property of yours is going into foreclosure. Is that true?
T-BOZ: No, I’m not homeless. During my last marriage [to Mack 10], I had a bunch of things that were put in my name. If one of those properties is going into foreclosure then I don’t know. Although I’ve been divorced for five years, there are still a lot of things I’m dealing with on getting straight in that regard. All I know is that the house I live in with my daughter is not. When you pull up my name, my real house doesn’t show up because it’s not in my real name, because I enjoy my privacy and I’m not trying to have people be able to find me that easily.
There were also reports of you losing a home in Houston?
T-BOZ: I’ve never owned a home in Houston. I closed a store in Houston, Chase’s Closet, where I sold girls and boys clothing from infants to 12 years. The store is named after my daughter, Chase. For now, I only have the online store (chasescloset.com).
That explains the locale. Did you see the photos they had of you that were allegedly in front of your Houston home begging for donations?
T-BOZ: It’s almost a waste of energy to give an explanation, but I’ll just say that the [blogosphere] loves to make up things. I remember that photo and it was on Craiglist.com showing me holding up an
