Video ~ T.I. Faces Ex in Child Support Hearing
T.I. faced his children’s mother, LaShon Dixon, in court today to dispute charges that he doesn’t adequately support his children. Tip appeared perturbed on the witness stand when asked about the size of his home as Dixon’s attorneys attempted to show the court that his income could accomodate an increase. The news reported that Dixon makes about $20,000 per year and is seeking an increase so that the kids can have the same benefits at her home as they do at T.I.’s. I’m usually on the woman’s side, but this time I’ll have to side with Tip. He argued on the stand that he works hard to support his kids and they want for NOTHING, so why should he give her extra:
“When they are with me…they have the standard of living that I have created for MY household due to all of my hard work, all of my sacrifices, all of the things that I have been able to provide. Now…if that’s not available at LaShon’s house that’s because LaShon has failed to provide…”
T.I. Faces Child Support Judge (News Report) from ATLien on Vimeo.
LaShon states that she just wants things to be “even” in both households and that any extra that she receives will be put in a savings account for the boys. *sigh* Baby momma drama…

January 6, 2009 @ 10:47 pmI’m riding with Tip on this as well. They were never married so what gives her the idea she’s entitled for him to fund her household? His responsibility is to their children and he’s definitely handling that so I don’t see her argument.
He pays 3,000 a month and private school, health insurance, etc. 3,000 should be able to take care of any bills she has regarding the kids.

January 6, 2009 @ 10:49 pmLaShon might learn the same lesson that Fiddy’s BM learned. stop begging and be happy that the man is doing any and everything for his child. he could be gutta and sue for custody and she won’t get jack, since he’s doing 95% of the providing anyway. he’s got a stable enough household for 3 kids, he would have no problem raising 6.
let’s hope that in ‘09 that beggin-*** BMs suck it up and provide for their own and stop depending on the dads, even if they are millionaires.

January 7, 2009 @ 3:46 amT.I. is obviously a good father and is providing for his children in the manner that good fathers do. It is unfortunate that this woman has decided that he should supplement her lifestyle because she is not willing nor inclined to do anything to increase her own “stock” in life.
It is pretty obvious why she is the EX and not the woman he comes home to. She seems more focused on COMPETING with the family he is living with now than taking advantage of a great opportunity to create something good for herself while T.I. is holding it down with the boys. I hope the Judge in this case refuses to give her even one red cent more!

January 7, 2009 @ 12:07 pmwell she was first and so were the kids I see both their stand points but i agree with her. I don’t have any kids yet so I dont have to deal with these kind of things but I heard it gets pretty nasty in the court system. Mark my words ti will have to pay her more money. It’s just the way things work. I don’t think shes a ho or gold digger she just wants the best for her sons. Then again ti laid down with her knowng she didn’t have anything, lol back in the day he didn’t even have much himself. So he can’t be mad at her for requestng things he knows the deal and shouldn’t get brand new about it. I don’t think his bm is taking advantage of the situation at hand. At the end of the day the kids is whats most important

January 7, 2009 @ 1:47 pmI’m all for people working and the young lady does have a job. But I’m getting a very strong feeling alot of people on blogs bring their OWN issues to a story. There are three sides to every story (his, hers and what actually is the story) and none of us are getting the FULL story on this situation.
Just because a mother requests more payments does not make her automatically a bad person. You all are making assumptions about this woman and none of them are fair. One this is the FIRST time anybody has even heard her make any requests from him. UNLIKE Mr. Curtis’s ex she doesn’t seem to be trying to make her case against Mr. Harris in the media nor even speaking ill about him. I just have a strong feeling that due to our current economic times, his impending possible incarceration and some other things we don’t have privvy too she may be feeling a little skittish about her future payments and wants an order in writing. Both of them appear to be good parents, and NO there is no evidence that she isn’t, but it was also mentioned that what he provides has never been court ordered. I think she wants something in writing and when you go to lawyers they ALWAYS tell you to aim high and you usually end up where you want to which is somewhere in the middle. I also get the feeling that she may others whispering in her ear about this that and the other, and like most of us we sometimes react first. She doesn’t appear to be some gold digger or “baby mama” out to score. When you were with someone since you were 11 it’s a little hard for me to accept you just got pregnant to get MONEY when you were both broke at the same time.
I’m sure Mr. Harris is upset that this is coming out at this time but it’s not her making all the hoopla it’s the media and blogs (because of who he is) and on some levels him. In order to get the order she has to bring him in front of a judge and there is nothing WRONG with that. As for Mr. Harris’ comment regarding his hard work and sacrafice, he’s able to do that b/c there’s always been A WOMAN at home for him raising the children whether it was her when she was with him or Ms. Cottle now that she’s with him. That makes it a LOT easier to go out in the world and conquer it. Men tend to forget that it’s because women stay home and care for the little one’s they are able to go out and do their thing. No disrespect to men but raising a family household as well as your income standard when you have kids works much better when you have someone at home spotting for you. And since Mr. Harris is out on the road more than he’s home then yes it has been because of teh women in his life who’ve raised his children that has allowed him to do so. And saying you want your kids to live with you full time is not the same as how it would be if they did. Besides not being funny but EVERYONE says that in front of the judge at custody hearings, fathers and mothers….LOL

I’m guessing that 95% refers to a certain ‘type of woman’ and not women in general.
POPDADDY
January 7, 2009 @ 3:39 pmi feel you, “hmmm”.. but first off, she doesnt stay home witht the kids, because she makes 20k a year. so she must work fulltime. I bet TI would be willing to give her 30 or 40k to go get a degree so she can bring more $ into her home HERSELF for THEIR children, then to give her 10k a month that shes requesting, when women dont have to prove what they do with the $. Who needs 6-10k a month to raise a child? cmon now. a 200k mortgage is less than 2 grand a month. new cars- maybe another 1k. you’re still talking alot of extra leftover $. There’s more leftover then she makes in a year.
I feel WHO you lay down with has nothing to do with HOW MUCH u get monthly.
it’s retarded to attach income to payment for a child. Why does a kid to a prof athlete deserve 10k a month, when a kid to a mcdonalds worker gets 225 a month. Now if the court feels 225 can properly assist raising a child, how can you justify thousands to someone else? Because of what their daddy does? That’s retarded. There should be a scale – under 2yrs old needs x dollar amount. 2-5yrs old needs y dollar amount, 5-10 needs z dollar amount.. etc. Then ALL parents, regardless of income, are all on a level playing field – or should i say “paying field!”
Just cuz u lay down with someone with money doesnt mean you should be entitled to latch onto it for 18 years. Like another person on here said – baby momma is not a career. Help to raise – absolutely. Every man should take care of his kids, and if u dont – ur pitiful excuse for a man. But the sliding scale of support pymts we have in america is utterly rediculous. she makes 20 a yr, and wants 120 from him.. c’mon now..
and as for the woman staying at home – ti has time on his hands too. Im sure he sees his kids alot. I bet she WANTED the kids fulltime, so you dont get kudos for raising kids, when you wanted them with you. That goes along with the job. I dont expect a compliment because I pick up my kid from daycare every day – hes my kid, and it’s my responsibility. Does it make me a good dad – possibly. But i certainly dont deserve compliments for “holdin it down.”
I also bet he’d be happy to have them under his roof with his other children, but then baby momma wouldnt get anything. And we know how that plays out in courts.. men lose.
POPDADDY
January 7, 2009 @ 3:52 pm“who cares” – no, i feel its 95% of women in general. I think its partly human nature to use whatever means necessary to do someone wrong when you are hurt, and lets face it – emotions of the relationship not working out is ALWAYS a factor.
I mean, I do see women who do whats best for the KIDS sake, who make sure their dad is a vital part of their kid’s life and raising, who dont talk bad about the dad in front of the kids or argue wit baby daddy in front of them..oh wait, no i dont! HAHA!
Look – im 33, and i am married with 2 kids, a 2yr old in house and a 13yr old not in house, to a “babymomma” from college. Not only in MY experience, but EVERY male friend, co-worker or business associate who has at least 1 child, I’ve personally seen this. I also sat in on court cases when doing a term paper in college on the child welfare system in america, and viewed it there as well. I’ve seen it MORE since my college days 10 yrs ago.
Trust me – the only time money does not matter, is when MOMMA is doing better than DADDY. Period. I didnt make it that way, I just call a spade a spade.
Hmmmm
January 7, 2009 @ 4:27 pmPopdaddy – my comment was in no way to infer Mr. Harris isn’t a good father. I’m sure he’s an excellent father as I’m sure she’s an excellent mother.
I personally believe people should get kudos for being good parents b/c it is such a thankless job. :O) So yes you are a good dad b/c you spend time with your children.
She didn’t sleep with him for money. Their kids were made prior to the fame and fortune which was my point. When you’ve been with someone since your were basically kids yourself it is a little hard for me to believe it’s JUST about the money. I feel this is more about getting it in writing more than anything else.
In regards to how much a parent gets, I do feel ya on that. But I don’t think it’s an easy answer. The system was set up to insure that children didn’t get shafted if one parent was doing better than the other. Of course in the old days it was the men who did better than women and to some degree that still holds true. It is a well known fact, well at least I’ve heard it said several times, :O) that the standard of living for children diminishes almost 50-60% when the father leaves or is not in that home. And the figure got worse when fathers remarried and had other kids. The courts kept hearing horror story after horror story how the kids where left out when the father moved on, especially if he got remarried. So they tried to implement a pay standard they thought would alleviate that. Unfortunately, both men and women have abused the system both ways and has made it difficult for good parents.
My only real point is I think both of them are good parents, but b/c of some of the things you’ve discussed and my point about the flawed system, we the people are jumping to conclusions. As I said early, and I apologize if I wasn’t clear (its hard to type thoughts when they come faster than your writing, which is why I love face to face as opposed to this type of thing :O) but I digress), I really think this is more about getting it in writing and when you go to court LAWYERS always jack up the asking price, trust me I know…LOL
With the uncertainity of our economic times, just think if those with are scared witless just imagine if you were without or limited.
Lastly, there are no easy answers to lifes complicated scenarios and blended families is one such scenario. I just hope both parties can move beyond this moment, ignore us bloggers, LOL and continue to be good parents to their children and hopefully at least pleasant to each other. Yeah I know I’m an optimist, but I like it. :O)
POPDADDY
January 7, 2009 @ 4:39 pmamen. you make good points. I like intelligent conversation. You do get kudos for that! lol
I guess im quick to jump to guys’ sides, because i know the system is flawed towards women, and that everyone man bashes when it comes to kids. And I guess I do put a little of my own experiences into it, but simply because those past experiences partly shape who we are as a person and what our beliefs are. so in that regard, i guess all of our opinions have a little of our past personal experiences wrapped in. lol I have to say i didnt know those stats of how income and lifestyle changes upon father leaving. I guess when you attach it to the payscale difference, it is indeed a valid point.
Hmmmm
January 7, 2009 @ 6:06 pmPopdaddy – You are indeed correct we ALL, myself included, bring our experiences to bare on any situation we discuss which is why it’s important for us to make peace with our pasts. :O) I noticed you said you were 33 yrs old. I’m a little older than you and have put to bed a LOT of my past pain and issues. I’m not a fan of male bashing especially when men and brothers in particular are SO MUCH fun to be around.:O) A lot of the bashing comes from women not putting to rest their pain and hurt, just like when brothers bash us.
To be honest I see so much of the pain, hurt, insecurities etc in our community and it breaks my heart. I guess as I’ve acquired a tiny piece of wisdom I’m learning that we’re all really just trying to do the best we can with what we got. And to semi quote Ms. Maya Angelou we do better when we know and understand better. Right now in my space of life I’ve learned that people want to do better when we come at them with love and respect not anger and hate. As I’m sure you can attest to when people and women specifically came at you with “attitude” your first response was always “step down and step off” even if the point they were trying to make was correct. But when she came at you with love respect and honored you as a man you automatically and innately wanted to do everything you could to live up to that standard. It is true for all of us as humans.
Lastly, thank you for the kudos. The same are returned to you. I have several brothers and a lot of male friends and I do listen when you all speak. :O) Me personally even though I was raised by a single woman, my mother NEVER spoke poorly of my father which is why he and I have a wonderful relationship today despite him not being there when I was young. I also realized it wasn’t my father not being there so much as how my mother treated him and situation that determined my attitude towards men. So your point to that is spot on. And I do know I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without all the men who have been in my life, yep including the ones who broke my heart. :O)

January 7, 2009 @ 7:31 pmPOPDADDY:
I’m sorry you feel that way, but hey- everyone is entitled to their opinion… I can respect that.
However, your generalization that the majority of women uses children to obtain more money is incorrect.
You already know child support is based on income/assets of both parents. Statistically, most seeking child support just happen to be women aka the custodial parent. Support may increase as the bread-winner income increases-depending on circumstances.
Every woman that asks for child support is not scorned or of devious nature. Many(more than 5%)simply want what’s best(includes entitlement)for their children.
With a situation like TI’s, I don’t choose sides. Hopefully they can get beyond this and continue to focus on the people that matter most– their sons.

January 7, 2009 @ 7:43 pmHis baby ma Foul she wants to open her mouth now them kids don’t want what she asking for. She just wants to bring issues and it is not about what she wants to provide them kids with. People kill me tryna put the dads on blast that actually do something. What if she had a babydaddy that wasn’t about nothin? She would be like the rest of the babymamas handling their business. Some of these woman need to realize that you choose to lay down so get down with what you need to do without handouts. January 7, 2009 @ 9:52 pmwho cares – you are right, income and assets of both parents. so if mom doesnt have any income or assets, why go out and EARN it and better yourself, when you can just re-evaluate your baby daddy income every year in court, and as his assets and income increase, so will baby mommas, for doing nothing on her own to better her own life. That’s the way it is. Nobody, if spoon fed money, is going to go out and earn their own. These women know this. You do too. Please tell me how she needs 10 grand a month, and what possibly a child could need, beyond medical needs, that would amount to so much. Its greed, plain and simple. She’s getting 3 grand a month + insurance + he sees his kids too. She cannot expect to live large off him. She makes 20 grand, gets 36 grand from him. 56 grand? With no health insurance or daycare? That’s middle class. There are alot of people makin it on 2 minimum wage incomes. She’s greedy, and shes envious of what the kids under his roof fulltime are getting that hers are not. She said that herself. She doesnt want such a disparency between what they’re offered at his house vs at home with her.
Greed and envy are not good things, “who cares”..thats why they are both deadly sins. She should get some gumption and get a degree, get a better career, and better her kids life herself. Trust me, t.i. will kick in more dough VOLUNTARILY, if he sees that shes kickin butt and takin names to better their children’s lives.
And lastly, going from 3k-10k a month is not asking for an “increase”. Its an 84 THOUSAND dollar a yr increase, my friend. If you make 36 grand, and ask your boss for 120, for doing the same exact job you been doing, what do you think his response would be? Exactly. Pink slip.
POPDADDY
January 7, 2009 @ 10:01 pmoh, and i did some checking – thats 3grand a month for EACH kid, meaning 6 grand a month, or 72 thousand dollars a year. But wait – she makes 20 grand, and thinks the courts should increase the support amount.. hmm.. 72 grand + her 20 = 92 thousand dollars a year. Because shes got a rapper’s kids? Rediculous. And the fact anyone would side with a gold digger like that – well, i only say this.. you’re all obviously women.

January 7, 2009 @ 11:48 pmfirst off the people hating on tip need to wake up the girl is getting 72,000 a year in child support and now this chick wants 120,000 a year for 2 kids? puh leeze is this chick crazy? tip might as well have FULL CUSTODY he’s paying for every damn thing (tuition, car note, medical insurance, extra curricular activities and clothes with that) !!! She is just plain lazy and GREEDY…. and im a woman .She does NOT deserve one more red cent!!! she should be happy he’s even in their lives he’s always photographed with them,he isn’t a deadbeat so she needs to SIT DOWN, this is BS. If she wants it to be so “equal” why not let him keep the kids??? YOU are no longer his WOMAN so stop looking at TINY and wishing you were living that life get a J-O-B. And all this she is ‘at home taking care of them.” shut up already sittng home with your kids WILL NOT pay the bills so that is not an excuse for her. there are plenty of women who work 2 jobs and their kids are fine i have NO sympathy for her at ALL.

I live in Ohio where the cost of living is lower and I make over that 20000..So in the ATL she probally workin’ two days out of the week and sitting on the couch the rest of the days collecting money or shopping. As a parent going to school and supporting my kids I can see she is clearly LAZY!! I get childsupport, but it don’t come close to what she is getting by far, but guess what I work with it and keep it moving. I hate these lazy females that get use to a certain life style and then cry when it runs dry. OH WELL nothing last forever the fact is it’s a ressession and eveything is going up and her lazy behind runnin’ short on the things that she’s spending TIP’s money on. You obviously think one-sided regarding child support. So one-sided that you mixed two different issues together: 1.Generalizing all women. 2.TI’s case.
Not once did I give my opinion about TI or his ex other than to wish the best outcome for both. I have no interest in analyzing his finances, what he pays, what she’s asking for, what she should get, and the WHY to all of it. You chose a side – not me.

TAUGHT BY AN OLD SKOOL MOTHER OF HIS KIDS
January 14, 2009 @ 4:04 pmok, I understand ALL points and sides. But, please let me inform some of you here. I am not a BABY MAMA, I am the Mother of HIS children. Please recognize the difference. My children father works and provide child support for them very comfortably. He pays (on his own) for EVERYTHING, because that’s the MAN he is. I do not have to do anything extra. However, since they are MY children as well, I do.
Now, the statement was “I want them to enjoy the lifestyle in my house, as they do in HIS house.” Unfortunately, that is IMPOSSIBLE. WHY? You do not live the SAME lifestlye. If YOU could provide the same lifestyle for them, then you would have wihout HIM giving MORE. THIS IS GREEDY. secondly, I am sure someone is advising her. Please young lady, tell those NOSEY, JAIL HOUSE LAWYERS to mind their own business.
FYI….If you are receiving 3k a month plus ALL expense paid and 20k which equates to approximately 18k after tax and insurance; which equates to 1500/month you should have 4500 to live off. I am more than sure you are not spending 3k a month on these children. I receive 2700 and I do not. I also have a Good job so, I PROVIDE a lifestyle in MY HOUSEHOLD for them. They also UNDERSTAND what goes on in Daddy home is not the rules and going in MINES.
My children are now 10 and 13. They are well manner, attends a great private school, vacations, extra-curricular activities, and ALMOST anything else they choose to do paid for by their father. This is what he CHOOSE to do. However, I do my part as their mother.
I had to get a job, which was not easy in the beginning, but “thank God” for my persistence, I was able to get a GOOD job and further my education, so that NOW, I am able to give them what is NEEDED from me. But, ABOVE ALL, We give them LOVE, RESPECT, And RESPONSIBILITIES….
