Tameka ‘Tiny” Cottle and Kandi Burruss cover this month’s issue of Rolling out magazine. The two former Xscape bandmates are still great friends (despite what you may have heard) and both have recently ventured into the world of reality television. Tiny’s “The Tiny & Toya Show” on BET is way better than most expected, giving us an up close and personal look into her family life alongside hitmaker T.I. Kandi came in as a Freshman to a crew of Seniors on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and has been catching mad flack about her relationship with a fiance’ who already has 6 kids.
Each having their own special situations, both make for great television! Check out the interview & video below:
I’m about to join the rest of the world outside and partake in some of this good ole ATL sunshine. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this back in the day flashback video of Xscape (Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, Kandi Burress, Tamika Scott & LaTocha Scott) covering the Clark Sister’s “Is My Living In Vain” acapella .
TV One has this incredible series called Unsung about old school music groups and artists whose careers experienced premature endings. It’s pretty good stuff, but not too revelatory to The Smaaawt One (a pet name given me by one of my oldest buddies). It just so happens that most of the acts have always been counted among my favorites – except one.
I never really knew a whole lot about The Clark Sisters. I was a child of hippies in the 70’s who wasn’t really raised in church in the 80’s. To be honest, the first time I ever remember actually going into an Atlanta church for a service with my mother voluntarily was when she got cancer and started bargaining with The Father to spare her a premature smite. She might have been a hippie, but she wasn’t no fool and knew exactly where to appeal when times got tough. I had more than a few friends, though, who were all up in the sanctuary singing at every opportunity they could find back in the day. Choir rehearsal to some in Atlanta was like working out – they sweat through it daily, for long periods of time, diligently. So, other than listening to them on WCLK’s Sunday gospel show and listening to those friends try to approximate those lush harmonies, I never knew anything about that family, that group, until that show. What I did know was that Xscape did a rousing rendition of one of their most popular songs on their first album that still stands as one of my favorite remakes of all time.
When you’re a teen (as a few of them were when they made that album) you tend to think that everyone will live forever. Even if yo silly behind is playing chicken back on a still-undeveloped Kimberly Mill Rd. in ’80-nunnayobusiness Continue Reading…
I just spotted this video of Kandi Burress and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle discussing what it would be like to travel into the future and had to post it. In the vid, Tiny says she would love take a secret peek into the future grown lives of her children. Speaking about her daughter having grandkids and visualizing King as a superstar like his daddy. Kandi desires to visit the past for a visit with her brother who passed a year before Xscape got a deal.
It’s been leaked recently that former Xscape member Kandi Burruss has been slated as the replacement for DeShawn Snow on the next season of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I’m really excited about this new season!
Kandi has a looooong history on the music scene in the ‘A.’ From her participation in the R&B singing group Xscape (which also included sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, as well as Burruss’ best friend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle)…to her high profile relationships with industry dudes, Kandi’s definitely no stranger to controversy.
She’ll fit into the ‘housewives’ gang quite well cause her name has been around these here parts for a minute.
It’s been said that she was the main reason behind the breakup of Xscape because her *cough* ‘relationship’ with the group’s producer, which happened to be Jermaine Dupri, was Continue Reading…
Quick Question: Who knew Tameka “Tiny” Cottle was such a great actress?!? Hell who even knew she was in a move? Check out this old footage of T.I.’s fiance in some straight to video type flick entitled “Black Balled” where she plays some dude’s baby mama….a real stretch for her. womp womp.
Fast Forward to the 3:08 mark:
That’s old school actor Stoney ‘Jheri Curl’ Jackson starring as the embattled black man (you might also remember him from Michael Jackson’s Beat It video). Is it me or does that other chick look amazingly like Atlanta Housewife Lisa Wu-Hartwell? Anywhoo…I have no idea where this movie came from so don’t even ask but I really don’t think you missed any Oscar worthy performances.
Thanks to NeNe from Tiny’s Fan Site for bringing Tiny’s acting talents to my attention.
