Lil Mama recently reveals that she had absolutely no idea that Jay-Z didn’t want her onstage with he and Alicia Keys during the closing performance of the 2009 MTV VMAs. Even though he tapped her on the leg and even though she heard him say something bout “T-Pain-ing” (a reference to rapper T-Pain hoppin onstage unsolicited during a previous Jay-Z performance of D.O.A.). Lil Mama says she didn’t realize anything was wrong until she saw the video later. She also issued (yet another) apology to Jay-Z:
To Jay in Particular, as a Brooklyn native (whom I am also)…in that moment there was nothing but respect and honor. It was a joyous moment. Whenever we share happiness or celebration…I mean that’s how a reaction takes place usually and it’s graceful. It’s never to disrespect you know. And I meant no harm. I was enjoying myself and I was enjoying his performance.

Seems Kanye’s lil stunt has made it all the way to the white house! During a CNBC interview on Monday, President Obama called hip-hop artist Kanye West a “jackass” regarding his behavior during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Lil Mama has sent out an apology via her PR peeps for her actions last night. In case you missed it, Rapper Lil Mama decided to grace the stage during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards closing performance, in which Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performed their first-ever collaboration, “Empire State of Mind.” The America’s Best Dance Crew judge hopped out of her seat and onto the stage during the song’s final seconds and pranced around onstage as if she was the headlining act. Word is, Jay attempted to avoid embarrassing her by tapping her on her leg, but apparently she didn’t get the hint. In her statement, Lil Mama says she was merely caught up in the moment:
“I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys,” the statement read. “I admire them and look up to them as role models. ‘Empire State of Mind’ had my emotions running high. In that moment I came up onstage to celebrate my two icons singing about NY.” (source)
Kanye West also issued another apology to Taylor Swift for stealing her joy during the awards show as well. Now, I’m still standing by my original assessment that this is all a hoax wonderfully crafted by MTV writers, but viewers are angered so much by Kanye seemingly disrespecting a lil country singer, that they’re gonna keep this going for a while. Last nights MTV Video Music Awards show was nothing less than spectacular. The performances were on point, the drama was on point…hell…even the red-carpet arrivals gave us something to talk about! Kanye West and his beard date Amber Rose arrived during the pre-show carring a fresh bottle of Hennessey. Now I’m not exactly sure if Ye is a new Henn spokesperson, or if he was simply numbing the daily pains and pressures of hiding from his true self, but whatever the case, Kanye seemed a bit wasted.
It even seems as if Amber tryed to get Kanye to give up his bottle
but it didn’t work!
Kanye West’s diva moment magnatized the awards show swagger by a hundred thousand trillion and I don’t know if I’m the only one, but it seems to me the drama was very well-scripted. Now on top of that, we’ve got a ready-made excuse for Kanye’s bizarre behavior. It took about 2 weeks for Eminem to admit to being in on the joke. I wonder how long Ye will hold out.
This is why Kanye wasn’t invited to Obama’s big healthcare speech. If only the MTV VMA people had done the same – at least they had the good sense to not invite Congressman Joe Wilson. (And Beyonce’s video *was* pretty awesome.)

Janet Jackson opened the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards with a full tribute to her late brother Michael Jackson. MTV did a montage of several of Michael’s popular videos and Janet appeared to rock the stage in typical Jackson fashion. Janet also hit up her twitter account later to offer her fans a special gift:
I hope u guys enjoyed us tonight. It was very special for me n I have a very special gift for all of u. Sept 14th 1:28am
The gift turned out to be the lyrics to a new Janet Jackson song entitled “Make Me” Click Here for the lyrics.
In between the opening and closing there was a bunch of tomfoolery. In short, Kanye stole the mic from Taylor Swift, Beyonce performed yet again in her sequinned bathing suit and then redeemed herself by giving Taylor some time to shine. I’m sure there was alot more going on but I was too busy rewinding the Kanye incident to pay any attention to anything else. Sorry.
The grand closing for the evening was non other than Jay-Z. Fresh off the heels of his 9/11 tribute concert, Jay rocked the stage with Alicia Keys in a hot performance of “Empire State of Mind”
Jay-Z and Alicia seem to be giving the side eye to the surprise guest who hopped onstage at the end of their performance.
I still don’t know what Lil Mama was thinking…
