Dekalb residents fast asleep in July were on the receiving end of police brutality, so says Donovan Hall and his younger brother.
Video obtained by Ellenwood, GA residents, and released to the media this week shows eight deputies using excessive force trying to serve a civil warrant. But the deputies never announced who, or what they were looking for.
The officers failure to disclose the nature of the home visit left the Hall family to assume they were at the wrong address. But it was no mistake. It seems all eight DeKalb deputies were at the Hall home to serve a civil warrant.
The family relived the disturbing incident in a recent interview, revealing they also caught it on tape when one of the family members documented the entire incident by pressing record on his phone.

Mann told Byfield the deputies went to the house for a reason, they had a civil warrant for the arrest of Hall’s mother, Natania Griffin. Mann also stressed his deputies arrived at the home close to 1:30 a.m. and the family did not open the door until 2 a.m.
The warrant which Byfield requested said Griffin failed to pay a $1,000 fee.
The description of the video taken by Hall’s phone and uploaded to YouTube proves that the family was awoken at 1:30 a.m.by loud banging and screams from what appears to be the Dekalk county officers. Donovan Hall, his brother and sister, and his mother, Natania Griffin, were scared beyond belief as they shouted through their front door at the officers.
Five minutes into the video, a woman believed to be Hall’s mother screams, “I haven’t done anything wrong.” The edited video runs about 20 minutes in length. And as a result of it’s release an internal investigation has been launched.
Dekalb Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeffery Mann addreess the issue head on in a press conference held recently saying, “The language that was used was unprofessional and I suspect there will be some disciplinary action,” Mann said.
Since release of the video, 3 of the DeKalb deputies involved have been suspended and 1 faces demotion. The Hall family is demanding that all deputies be terminated and have started an online petition HERE.
