If you following me on Instagram and/or Twitter you may have noticed my live accounting of the festivities. The show was also shown live on ASX-TV and quickly became a trending topic on social networks as Jermaine pulled out all the stops to celebrate his 20 years of musical influence on Atlanta and beyond.

While the event proved to be successful, it wasn’t without it’s share of controversy. I’ve been told there was a lot going on backstage and apparently many others heard the stories as well.
That being said… check out performance video from the event below PLUS an email I received yesterday from an ‘A-town fan’ (who asked to remain nameless) about their personal accounting of the So So Def 20th Anniversary concert and the drama that may (or may not) have occurred…

subject: SoSo Def 20th Anniversary Concert – Did you miss the shade?Hi ATLien,
I couldn’t help but notice that you attended the SoSoDef 20th Anniversary concert on Sat. night. I mean you were on Twitter and Instagram all night-no shade! LOL
Anyway, since you were obviously on your phone all night I thought you might have missed all the shade being thrown throughout the concert. I decided to help you out since your readers might wanna know what else they missed, if they weren’t there to see it for themselves.
First of all, security told me that before the show even started the members of Jagged Edge were arguing backstage, so much so that security had to break it up. Why? No one but those fools really know. I personally feel that all their
broke ‘A’zzes need to shut up, beg B. Cox for some tracks, and make another CD like that first joint.Next, why did Bow Wow try to have a concert of his own. Everybody sang a couple of hits and sat it down. Mr. 106 & Park clearly had a moment and wouldn’t shut the hell up. We were not feeling him or that long dragged out performance.
Atlanta’s mayor Kasim Reed must have been busy Saturday because he sent ex-radio host Frank-Ski in his place to give Jermaine Atlanta’s award for the “entertainment commisssion”? what ever that is.
Then, Usher’s steal the show self, comes and takes over. J. D. couldn’t get him off the stage either. I couldn’t believe that Usher admitted to us all that he got mad at Lil John over that ‘Lovers and Friend’ track. Maybe he’s growing up in his old age or maybe he just put the X away for the evening. I dunno, but it was history to see them all perform again for the first time.
Lil John was acting like he was not coming back on stage with Ursh and Luda, but he came out, being the quality gentleman that he is. (By the by, Lil John killed that battle with JD.) He is truly the KING OF CRUNK!
Lastly, did anyone else catch Jay-Z calling JD a m***ucker and telling him that he was not there to do no concert? Maybe cause I was in the pit, we were the only ones that caught it. That was a classic moment! But since JD put him on the spot the Jigga Man, being the class act that he was, came back out to give the fans what they wanted.
And Umm, why did prima donna Mrs. Cannon not perform or at least hum a few bars? That’s okay, because when she didn’t come out, that sanging R&B QUEEN of Atlanta, Monica Arnold-whatever his last name is, turned it out!!! That girl can flat out blow! She sang Love All Over Me and shut it down. Studio singers can’t compete with that! As an after thought, I don’t blame Mimi, I wouldn’t have opened my mouth either! LOLLOL
All in all, this was an epic event and something that most people will never experience in their lifetime, kinda like that Freaknick of ’93!
You think Diddy will try to do a similar event? Naw, probly not cause all his BadBoy artists are either suing him, in jail, or dead. Oh well! Again Kudos to Mr. Dupri for an unorganized yet phenomenal evening.
An A-Town Fan 4-Life
Wowzers! That’s a great lil summation there so there’s not much for me to add besides my cosigning the fact that Jermaine’s So So Def 20th Anniversary Concert was phenomenal.
Honestly, I’m just happy that the “surprise” guests all came through like they said they would. Major props to JD and the So So Def Family and here’s wishing you 20 more good years in the biz!

Monica sung her ass off! I hope she’s blowing like this on her next album!
OMG, YES Monica tore.it down! I guarantee she will be told to pull back on her next album..she just needs to do a few mixtapes or a live album so she can really show her skills
I agree…hopefully she drops a mix tape!!!
I saw the video of Usher and yes he was taking over but that’s his personality..they didn’t really seem to have an issue with it, plus you can tell it was all set up that way otherwise the band wouldn’t know their que….as far as Lil Jon, Usher didn’t say anything about Lovers & Friends..JD said that..tell whoever sent you that, to look at the video again and stop trying to start sh*t
Clearly Michelle’s pressed ass wrote this "anonymous" letter…bish couldnt even hide her disdain for Usher while faking it smh. If u wanna throw shade and be messy on your site why hide behind a dumb "letter" that you wrote? Just stop smiling in these people faces then being two faced when u walk away..thats all
Chile puhlease! Why do you care? If you’ve been reading this site you’ll recall that she speaks her mind because it’s her site. If it is her, that’s okay because it is her site. Don’t have an opinion where you have no responsibility or accountability.
Yea I think Michelle wrote it too! Smh
Did someone just compare Mariah to Monica? Or Monica to Mariah? What part of the game is that? Either way it’s nonsense. There are people in Atlanta don’t know who Monica is…meanwhile people all over the world have lined Mariah’s or Mrs. Cannon’s pockets nicely..for years…and years to come. To the author: I guess its just one of those days…don’t take it personal…
Hahahahahaha…ha
Usher is a FINE AZZ MAN!!!!!!!! I don’t care what nobody say about him, LOL
wow all the video is great (i wish there was a stream of the whole show).. it looks like a lot of fun! and these performances were all surprises? jd really outdid himself. its so easy to forget how much jd/sosodef did.. but when its all compiled – daaaamn.. major!
(i wonder if bow wow was there.. kandi/xscape? ..who else was missing?)
thanks for the coverage. & you looked great too.
Bow Wow was there from what i’ve read..no Kandi or Tiny
That was epic loved the way those entertainers had to be humble and pay homage to a gifted producer. I loved that they all came back to the root. It was outstanding wish I could have seen it with my own eyes. To be successful & humble is the tru meaning of greatness !
Show was dope! All the way around! Every performer did their best to please that audience! I really don’t want to hear about any rumors, gossip or drama, it would ruin what was an awesome night for JD, Atlanta and Black Music! Only thing I say was out of place was that co-host with Kendra G…he was hooorrrriible!
If it was like Freaknik ’93 well got dayum,I did miss an epic event…shout out to Club Excess off of Moreland (r.i.p) down the street from the Foxy Lady. That’s where stripper poles went to rust and die.
Some one mentioned that their are ppl in Atlanta who does not know who Monica is that cannot be AT all true MISS THANG has been since I was younger so stop hating not a good look
I’m telling y’all this was the Atlanta version of the Legends Ball… I can really appreciate that. JD man, from what I understand, it was a fantastic event.
There was another version of this done in New York i wanna say back in the early 2000 by Dave Chappelle. It was a hip hop concert with the Roots, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Lauren Hill, Wycliff and the Refugee All Starz…
Dana T.
what about xscape
What happened to this TURDS money? He stole enough from all these fools. And they still come back to help him. Atlanta people are so thirsty for a lil Attention!!!! SAD! GET LOST! GO AWAY! FOOLS LIKE THIS I LEAVE STRANDED AND EMPTY HANDED!!!
Say whaaaat??? I believe that lil mothafucka did that too!!! Wow, WTF part of the game is that for them to still ride with him? Exxxxtreme thirst must be in order.
I just watched the usher jd luda and lil Jon part… pretty good. lil Jon did his lovers and friends part acapella… dang ATL LUV HIM!!!!!!!!
Ok so nobody has anything to say about how jd’s.
Played Kris kross and there fans by putting them on stage first knowing that people were going to arrive late. And even if you did get there early they only got 8 mins on stage? Then no thank you for helping to build so so def? Nothing? He just used them to sell his show. Most people came to see them and didn’t even get to see them. Once again he used them. What a rat. Hopefully he scraped up enough money to pay his Damn house note!
I was at this concert. This was the best concert I have ever attended in my 41 years and I have been to many. I’m so happy that I was able to experience this. From Kriss Kross to the end it was excellent and well put together. JayZ and JD have been friends for over 20 years so for this person that wrote the fake letter to make it seem like he was talking slick was really trying too hard to make something out of nothing. Nobody thought that but you because these men are friends. When Kriss Kross hit the stage the house was already sold out. I think people like this blog owner and others looking to slickl,y create negativity about nothing says alot about what’s going on inside of them. It just bothers them to say it was damn good. That would be too much. You can’t just be happy for another person. Smh
Love how Jay-Z refused to rap with vocals
Everyone should’ve done that!
I live in CT and have only visited Atlanta oncce in my life….back in 2005 for a business trip. I still get excited when I see Peachtree St. (Or Ave.) on t.v. because I stayed at a very nice hotel there. But anywho….I would have loved to see this. The performances were outstanding. Monica Brown…Monica Brown….Monica Brown…did I say Monica Brown? Hahahah!!!I’m geting married next year,,,and of course my song for my walking down the isle is…..you guesses it. The Scott sisters? Why are they not signed to a record label on their own?(deer caught in headlights look) Even though Tameka is preggers, so sounded great and looked great! Clearly JD knew talent and is still doing his thing 20 years later and 20 more to come. I may not be back to Atlanta again in my life, but I will say….if I had known about this way in advance I probably would’ve some how scheduled a "business trip" and came back to work on Monday with a full report about how one black man( black history month) in Atlanta made alot of people famous because they could sing. How does that sound? I wouldve played some R&B music from all those that showed up. Even my multi colored friends would have been knodded their heads and tapping their expensive shoes at the same damn time.lol… Atlanta you rock! Thank you and continue with the success JD and all those great people!
