Don’t be alarmed… the people in the photos aren’t deceased, they just look like it. 
So there’s this craze going around where people photograph themselves laying facedown and lifeless in random places. It’s become so popular that it was even a trending topic on twitter earlier today.
The craze has taken the net by storm and people are going to great lengths to get that one perfect shot of them “planking” from dangerous situations.
Despite pleas from law officials to stop the dangerous act and at least one reported death, the act of “planking” has continued to surge and what was formerly a “crazy white boy” stunt has gone urban.
Flava Flav has even been spotted “planking”…

Many on twitter have said that the term “Planking” or “Plankin” derives from slavery, where slaves were transported on wooden planks while lying face down in chains….
It’s really not too much of a stretch. In fact, a quick Google search turned up the following image of the African-American slave trade with the word “Planking” in the description…

I felt the same way as most on here until I started looking at some of the pictures. To me it’s just entertainment except the ones that put lives in danger. The term planking when it comes to exercise is actually using your core muscles to hold your body up OFF the ground, not lying flat on the ground or a object looking like a idiot.
Planking has nothing to do with slavery, please don’t spread this under the ruse that it came from slavery. Furthermore the act of "planking" as been misused by silly Americans (as are most things). It is not about where you "plank" the task is about how long you can hold a the plank. Considering the fact that planking is an exercise meant to strength the core muscles, many people (Americans) are simply laying down in random places and taking pictures of it. If you actually research planking from Australia (which is where it originated) you will see the proper way to hold a plank is, chest down with the head and toes parallel to the floor. Just because planking started in Australia doesn’t mean that it couldn’t have gotten it’s name from the practice of planking during the Middle Passage. White Aussies are just as racist as White South Africans and White Americans and their history proves it. Now I won’t go as far as to say that this game got it’s name from the practice of planking of kidnapped africans during the North American Slave Trade but it can’t be ruled out. I have an African American class, and my teacher was telling us how stupid people would actually post pictures doing this. And it’s a dumb thing to do. Our ancestors went through hell back in the slavery days, and i just don’t understand why people would wanna bring back any memories of what slaves went through, especially through a "Joke/Game" like this.
