Tongues are wagging today after Lupe Fiasco commented about terrorism and explained why he chooses not to vote.
In a video interview segment for CBS, called What’s Trending,” Fiasco (aka Wasalu Muhammad Jaco) said that casting a ballot for a politician is like an endorsement of everything that person does. Lupe won’t do that for any presidential candidates because, “I don’t want you to bomb some village in the middle of nowhere.”
Lupe is very well known for his socially conscious and politically charged lyrics, but now he has some harsh words for the president.
In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama, and the United States of America.
I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism. You know, the root cause of terrorism is the stuff that the U.S. government allows to happen, and the foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists. And it’s easy for us because it’s just some oil.”

Lupe is an observant Muslim who has always spoken out against hip-hop for its use of vulgarity and degradation of women.
I’ve spoken with Lupe several times and posted a One on One a few months ago (click HERE if you missed that) so I remain a fan. He doesn’t do drugs, drink alcohol and has long been an advocate in the hip-hop community making the world a better place.

I can respect his willingness to go against the crowd. Especially since most black folks would probably be afraid to call out their black president.
That being said, the only "fiasco" about him now is his career. Id throw you a rope down to ya Lupe but aint no rope long enough for you to climb outta this hole.
Why? According to him I’m a "fan" (as of today, not anymore) that is "vouching" for his beliefs even if they differ from mine. So even though I don’t agree with what he’s just said (word for word at least), because I am a fan and because I bought his album, I have to now stand by his CONVICTION! Because… that’s just how I have to be as a human being.

I think when he said those things or even curated that "theory" on WHY he would NEVER vote Obama (or anyone else) again, he forgot the crucial elements that LED TO the things that are going on in the government today. Not to say that he doesn’t have a (minimal) point.
But don’t become fixated on the buzz topic of the week because CNN told you to. I mean terrorism and foreign policies aren’t the least of our worries, but geesh, CAN I get a break here at home? Especially since they’ve been in place BEFORE Obama!
Its a two-way street; the government doesn’t always adhere to the people and the people aren’t all going to go along with the plan of the government.
Overall, I think that’s where this country is at mentally, we are on "NOW"! And in the midst of being on "NOW", we have selective memory & history. Obama isn’t the end all be all in government. Lupe is right about Obama and about the uselessness of voting in America. Unless someone is rich there is literally no point in voting for anybody in this piece of shit country.
