I got a chance to talk to Antonia “Toya” Carter yesterday and she shared a bit of info about her new BET reality series, “Toya: Family Affair,” which will focus on Toya’s trials and tribulations with family issues.
We had a great time chatting about everything from the show to the latest gossip. I even had to give Toya an impromptu class on the proper way to display the “A”. I assure you it was Heeee-larry-us!
Toya has been walking in the shadow of her famous ex, Lil Wayne, but that’s about to be a non issue as she’s doing her own thing now.
She’s currently engaged to her boo, Memphitz and has several business ventures including her new boutique “Garb”.

In our one on one interview, Toya says she wants people to move on and let that go… because she definitely has.
“I want people to love and respect me for me and not for who I was associated with. That’s only a part of my life.
Sometimes you get drowned in someone else’s shadow and people only look at you as that person’s “ex” or that person’s “baby mama”, when you were much more.
I was much more than that, I was his ex-wife… and that’s my past.
So, I just want people to leave that in the past and let me live my life. I’ve moved on, I have a NEW man and new things that I’m doing.
And I just want the people who are supportive of the things I’m doing… to support me and stop putting a stereotype on me because I’m really trying to stand on my own two feet…

I had an opportunity to preview several clips of Toya’s new show and we’ll get to learn a lot more about Toya her boo Memphitz. There’s even a scene with him picking out Toya’s $650,000 diamond engagement ring!
There will also be a ton of drama with Toya dealing with her mother’s drug addiction and her sibling’s fighting over money and power within their family structure.
Trust… it’s gonna be good!!

During a recent interview, Lil Wayne said that he’s gonna step aside let Toya shine. He also says he acutally has no real interest in seeing Toya’s new show, which also features his 12-year-old daughter Reginae.
“I let her do her thing. It probably comes on at a time when I’m not at the house,” Wayne said, adding that he’s not even curious about it.
It’s only natural that Wayne wouldn’t watch. I mean really… would YOU want to watch your ex being wined, dined and treated like royalty by another person?
Toya’s new show, “Toya: A Family Affair” debuts Tuesday, April 19th 12th at 10pm ET/PT on BET.

I will definitely be tuning in! Toya is so down to earth and genuine. Lil Wayne needs to sit his a@# in a corner somewhere! He is just ignorant for saying that he won’t watch! Who cares? He’s just mad and jealous that Toya has moved on and is doing her own thing. I am happy for her and Memphitz! Congrats!

Okay I understand her wanting to create her own but how is she complaining about being in Lil Wayne’s shadow and she’s still carrying his last name….kind of irrational to me. They will always be connected they have a child together and they were married and she still has the name…his name..thus putting her back in the very position she is trying to escape.

definitely will be tuning in…and why folks steady harping on these ex wives keeping the name…ESPECIALLY when they have minor children. Divorce is not an annulment. It’s not saying the marriage never existed…its saying it did not work out. Even if she went back to her maiden name, would she still not be his ex-wife? Wouldn’t every introduction of her be prefaced by ex-wife of rapper Lil Wayne?So why does it matter if she choses to keep the name…she was married…she is entitled until she marries again. sheesh peeps…

No direspect to Toya, I know she means well and she’s trying to help her family and get them paid at the same time. But I’m not interesed in this type of show. It appears it’s going to be somewhat of a replica the K. Cole the way-it-is and that show was truly a "HOT MESS" and nothing positve came from it, not for her or or family just the opposite. Will not be tuning in.
