Atlanta based Hooters restaurant chain is under fire this week after they suspended one of their scantily clad waitresses after she gained a few pounds!
The chain had just given Detroit based waitress Cassie Smith a glowing 2 year review, but her bosses and two women on a conference call from the company’s headquarters in Atlanta changed their tune when it came to her uniform evaluation.
Cassie, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 132 pounds says she sat in shock while she was advised that if she wanted to keep her job she needed to drop some weight.
They were like, your shorts and your shirt size could use some improvement.
These women proceeded to tell me I had 30 days, they would give me a free gym membership, and if I didn’t improve in 30 days I would be separated from the company.
I was horrified, I was heartbroken, I was humiliated
Cassie clearly doesn’t have a problem squeezing into her skimpy uniform, an extra small tank top and shorts. In fact she says when she started this job 2 years ago she weighed about 10 pounds more than she does now.
The 20 year-old feels like she’s been a victim of weight discrimination by a corporation with unrealistic expectations.
?I don’t want other girls to go through this. I don’t want anyone to have to go through this.?
Hooters of America Inc. denies Smith’s claim and in a statement issued Tuesday said that Hooters doesn’t impose a weight requirement and “no employee in Michigan has been counseled about their weight.”
The restaurant chain that features waitresses clad in skimpy tank tops and bright orange tight shorts says its standards are legal and fair.
