The premiere season for VH1’s Sorority Sisters is over almost as quickly as it began and I’m sure there are a lot of joyful protestors celebrating the news.

Controversy has followed the show since it’s inception, with protests, advertiser pull outs and cast member suspensions all added to the show’s list of problems.

While many are reporting that the show is canceled, the network has refused to make an official statement on the matter. However what they HAVE done is decided to air all of the episodes of the first season. despite protests from the Divine 9.

According to the AJC, the final three episodes of the series will air on Friday, January 16th at 9pm in a three hour block on the East coast.? There is no West Coast scheduled airing of the show.
The final show airs at 11 and by midnight, season one will officially be over.
For the record, ratings for ?Sorority Sisters? on Monday nights weren?t bad. They averaged about 1.2 million, but benefited from viewers leftover from Love & Hip Hop New York.
VH1 has not officially confirmed that the show is canceled, but with all the controversy surrounding ‘Sorority Sisters’ it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to surmise that it won’t be picked up for a 2nd season.
?Sorority Sisters? has been attacked for denigrating the history of African-American sororities by tying these well-regarded Greek names to the silly stereotypical drama that is part and parcel of many of VH1?s reality shows.
The formula is now well worn: cattiness, jealousy, name-calling with the occasional fist thrown for good measure
The backlash included an online petition that drew more than 40,000 supporters demanding the project be abandoned. Lawrence Ross, one of the organizers of the boycott, has claimed that the show reduces the worthy legacy of African-American sororities to a “perverse caricature.” The channel said that the last three of 10 episodes will air back-to-back Friday. The move is intended to satisfy viewer interest by bringing the cast’s stories full circle, VH1 said. (source)
I’m not a fan of the show, but I never agreed with the boycott. While I agree that there are some things within our culture that should remain sacred, the protests surrounding this show were blatantly hypocritical.
The same people on twitter and social media sending me #boycottsororitysister information and demanding that I stand with their cause, were the same ones joyfully tweeting about the Atlanta Housewives last Sunday… but whatever, the protests worked. Congrats!
