According to Bey’s dad and former manager, Mathew Knowles, the couple orchestrated a “Jedi mind trick” in the form of the elevator stunt in order to boost tour and album sales.
During an appearance on Houston’s Roula and Ryan Show on 104.1 KRBE, Mathew Knowles claimed that the incident was pre-planned in an effort to boost album and ticket sales.
“I know, from experience, because we’ve done this, there’s a tour going on,” he said, referring to Bey and Jay’s On the Run tour. “So you have to sometimes ignite that tour?it’s called a Jedi mid trick! The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of time. So things you see sometimes are [poof noise].”
He goes on to say…
“[They needed something to] ignight that tour. It’s called a Jedi mind trick. A Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of times,” he said. “All I know is everyone is talking about it. Ticket sales went up, Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent…”
