Meet 29 year old Formeka Sanders. Formeka, the mother of 6 kids, was arrested in Orlando, Florida recently after her 4 year old was found wondering alone in the parking lot of an Apartment complex while she was partying it up in a local club.
That’s right… she’s 29 with 6 kids by 6 baby daddies and you can find her up in the club!!
Five of Formeka’s 6 children, ages 12, 10, 9, 4, and 2, had been left home alone Sunday evening as the single mother popped bottles and pretended to live the “champagne life” but things turned sour when cops called her cellie in the middle of her night on the town!
A security guard who was patrolling the parking lot near Sanders apartment alerted police around 1:40 a.m, after he discovered a 4-year-old boy wandering around outside.
The child told the guard he was by himself and then led the guard back to his apartment. When officers arrived they found four children sleeping in a bedroom with no adult present.
Police said Sanders left a cell phone number with her children, but when police called it, she could not be heard because of loud music in the background, and she hung up.
Orlando police said Sanders was at Firestone, a downtown Orlando night club. One of the children told police that Sanders left the apartment around 11 p.m. Sunday.
Sanders returned home around 3:30 a.m. with her boyfriend and was promptly arrested and charged with child neglect.
According to Orlando police, officers smelled alcohol on Sanders, who admitted to having one drink after initially saying she did not have any alcohol.
Sanders said she left one of the children in charge of the apartment and feels the child is old enough to care for the four siblings, according to the police report. She also said she typically goes out on weekends and leaves the child in charge of the others for about three hours overnight approximately once a week, according to police.
According to several reports, this isn’t the first time Sanders has had issues with authorities over her kids. Orlando police and DCF responded to the apartment complex on July 6th, when one of her children nearly drowned in a pool.
Sanders was not home at the time, but a father of one of the children was supposed to be supervising the kids.
“Clearly we have a documented pattern of inadequate supervision and given the potential for such serious harm, especially in the July incident, we felt we had no choice but to remove the children and place them into protective custody,” DCF spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner said Monday.
A hearing was held on Monday (8/23) to determine custody arrangements for the children. Sanders appeared in a court hearing yesterday in a navy blue jail jumpsuit and said little, as she was charged with child neglect.
According to the police report, the kids were initially turned over to her mother, but at Monday’s hearing, a judge and DCF officials said Sanders’ mother has a history of crack-cocaine use and therefore denied her request for custody.
Judge Anthony Johnson ordered home studies to be done with several relatives to try to find placement for Sanders’ six children. The next court date was set for Sept. 13.
David Rushing, the father of the 4-year-old, also attended the hearing and requested custody of the boy. The judge ordered a review be conducted to determine if it will be a suitable home for the child.
It is unknown if any of the other kid’s fathers were present for the hearing. In the meantime, the kids were removed from the Grandmother’s home and placed in the custody of child services.? Formeca was released on bond and is awaiting trial in the case.
The next court date was set for Sept. 13. Pray for the children!
