In an interview with Rap Radar, Badu revealed that she’s never spoken to her son Seven about the song, but for her, the track hit a “sore spot.” After initially thinking, “I don’t want to hear that” in response to Big Boi’s scathing verse.

But Badu, mother of Andr? 3000’s 19-year-old son, says that it was Dre?s verse that brought her around, stating:

“Then when I heard Andr?’s verse, I felt very good because his verse was really, really inspiring,” she explained.

“He just told how he felt, and it was his honest feelings. I’ve always respected that and listened to what he felt and appreciated it. So, I liked it.”

Badu admits during the interview that the biggest fan of the hit song, was its intended recipient… her mother.

“How did my mama feel? Baby, she bought herself a Ms. Jackson license plate,” Badu said.

“She had the mug, she had the ink pen, she had the headband, everything. That’s who loved it.”

Badu also discussed Seven, her son with Andre 3000.

?He?s a huge fan of his father. I?m not just mom, I?m Erykah. He?s not just dad, he?s Andre.

The things that we went through, that we go through, our opinions about things, our feelings, there?s a place for that. Seven has a look on his face all the time, it?s the same look. You don?t know if he?s smiling or nothing but the look, it?s almost as if he?s saying ?I hope that?s working out for you.??
