Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has made tons of disparaging remarks over the years, but one incident in particular is now resounding amongst the hip-hop community.
When Lil Jon appeared on The Apprentice a few years back he donned an Uncle Sam costume during one of their projects and Trump allegedly referred to the music mogul as ‘Uncle Tom’.
Details below…
The DailyBeast dropped a bombshell a few days ago about how Trump continuously disrespected rapper/producer Lil Jon on the set of The Apprentice back in 2013.
During an episode of a season that first aired in 2013 (dubbed All-Star Celebrity Apprentice), the ?Turn Down for What? singer was tasked, along with the other celebrity contenders, with mounting competing displays around and inside glass trucks in order to promote hair-care products. In the heat of competition, Lil Jon bought and donned an Uncle Sam costume to help advertise the ?beautiful? hair product.
During the day?s shoot, Trump himself caught wind of this gimmick and began referring to Lil Jon around Apprentice staff as ?Uncle Tom? instead of Uncle Sam.
?Look, he?s Uncle Tom!? one longtime Apprentice staffer recalled Trump blurting out at least twice.
He just couldn?t grasp that it was offensive.
When [Trump] decides he wants to do something, that?s his way.
The staffer said Trump was utterly tone-deaf to the racially charged history of the term, which is used to deride a black man deemed to be subservient to white people.
Trump’s campaign denied the story as ‘simply untrue’ (as they have many others) but apparently it happened and Lil Jon hit the net to offer his take on the story.
Lil Jon recently?confirmed reports that Donald Trump continuously referred to him as ?Uncle Tom? during the taping of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice in 2013.
The rapper posted the following statement on Twitter saying Trump definitely used the offensive?term!
He?explains:
When this ?Uncle Tom? incident happened on Celebrity Apprentice in the boardroom several of my cast mates and I addressed Mr Trump immediately when we heard the comment. I can?t say if he knew what he was actually saying or not, but he did stop using that term once we explained its offensiveness.
I also want to be clear that I don?t agree with many of the statements Mr Trump has said during his current run for President.
Lil Jon?s statement was posted following?Trump’s denial of the story.
