Snoop takes exception to the portrayal of slavery in Roots and the movie 12 Years A Slave, which won the best picture Oscar in 2014 and a best supporting actress award for Lupita Nyong’o.

He also feels that the timing for the airing of the series is suspect.

No disrespect… but I can’t watch no m*therfukkin more Black movies where n*ggas getting dogged out… ’12 Years a Slave’… ‘Roots’… ‘Underground’

I don’t understand America. They just want to keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But guess what? We’re taking the same abuse.

Snoop goes on to call for ‘Real N*ggas’ to make movies about successful Black people.

Think about that part. When you all going to make a m*tchaf*kkin series about the success that black folks is having. The only success we have is Roots and 12 Years A Slave? And sh*t like that huh?

When y’all gone make a m*thaf*ckkin series about the success that Black folks are havin? The only success we havin is Roots and sh*t like that? Huh?

F*ck that I’m not watchin’ that sh*t! I advise you m*thaf*ckka’s that’s Real N*gga’s like myself to create our own movies.

Well dayum Snoop… it’s been almost 30 years since the last Roots movie.? You had plenty of time to create your own.? What’s stopping you??

For the record, I think that it’s IMPERATIVE to remind today’s youth about our history because some seem to have forgotten it.? It’s not an easy thing to take in, but it’s history and it’s important to realize that these things aren’t just a part of our past, they are keys to rebuilding what was lost during that time.

I can also understand his viewpoint about the timing of all of the slave-themed movies.? While it seems that we’ve been bombarded with them, that may be because NOW is the perfect time to remind us all.

Needless to say, LaVar Burton hit the tweets to reach out to Snoop stating:

What do you think about Snoop Dogg’s testimonial?
